  1. According to Eddie Robinson’s autobiography Miriam taunted him so much over political differences that they had on the set of 1935’s Barbary Coast even in front of the cameras that he finally cracked and thumped her heavily in the mouth whereupon he fled the set back to his dressing room.in both anger and embarrassment. Whatever the squabble was about romantic leading man Joel McCrea took Miriam’s side and they both apparently ostracized Eddie.

When her heyday ended in 1943 in Old Acquaintance co-starring Bette Davis Miriam did not [as Bruce’s tables above faithfully record]make all that many more films over the next almost 30 years remaining in her career; so the only film that I have ever seen her in is 1966’s The Chase starring the Brando siblings Marlon and Jocelyn/Redford/Jane Fonda/Angie Dickinson and Bobby Duvall.

It was as Bruce correctly notes Miriam’s penultimate movie and in fact her final big budget one and in it at the age of 64 she was Redford’s mother [the screen’s top mother figure in those years Myrna Loy possibly being unavailable].

Miriam did though in that post-1943 period do a lot of television work and appeared in as many as 16 series in one to five episodes of each. As she was a big part of the early decades of movie making starting with a short film at the tail end of the silent era she deserves this new page which is “Voted UP!”

    1. Hey Dan…as always….thanks for the great lists of trivia and connections. As for Fanny Hill…I imagine the money was too good to pass up….I have not only not seen it….but…had not even heard of that one. Not surprised she is not on the Oracle list…but I am surprised on how many of those actors are still with us…Duvall, Redford, Fonda and Maclaine. 28 Oscar winning co-stars is pretty impressive since her career was not too long. Good stuff as always.

  4. Sorry you are still having issues.
I have seen 16 of these Miriam Hopkins movies.

    Favourite Miriam Hopkins Films;

    The Heiress
    Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
    Trouble in Paradise
    The Smiling Lieutenant
    Old Acquaintance
    Barbary Coast
    Design For Living
    Virginia City

Other Miriam Hopkins Movies I Have Seen:

    The Children’s Hour
    The Old Maid
    The Story of Temple Drake
    The Stranger’s Return
The Richest Girl in the World
    The Lady with Red Hair
    Splendor
    Becky Sharp

I am surprised that Becky Sharp did poorly as Miriam was nominated for an Academy Award.

    1. Hey Flora…as always….thanks for sharing your thoughts on our latest page. I have only seen 5 of her movies. Tally count: Flora 16, bob cox 7 and me 5. I have seen 4 of your favorites…with Trouble in Paradise being my favorite….though I did not really like her character at all. I have seen none of your “others”. As for Becky Sharp…that was yet another issue with the new database, new website connection and new computer…..but it is now almost in the right spot….one more update and this table should be good to go. Good stuff as always.
