  1. Interesting, I would have thought Norman Jewison had directed more films, but I guess that’s because I have seen a relatively high proportion of his films (15 of the 24 listed). Jewison is a versatile director, originally from my Canadian homeland, who managed to explore a variety of social themes in a manner that manner that usually proved successful with mainstream audiences, particularly with In the Heat of the Night and Fiddler on the Roof, which like UMR, I would rank as my favorites. Other films, I have enjoyed, though they have not left a particularly strong mark on me, include Moonstruck, The Cincinnati Kid, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Thrill of it All, Rollerball and The Hurricane. An important one I missed is The Russians are Coming…I also liked the lowest ranked film on the list, The Statement, with a rather chilling Michael Caine. Certainly, not a great film, but I’m not sure it deserves such a low rating!

    1. Hey PhilHoF17….good to hear from you. I was just thinking about you and your 1986 movie comment…..I will be talking about that comment in a little bit. As for Norman movies…I have seen one more than you…as I have seen 16 of his movies. Possibly 17….but not 100% sure I have seen The Thrill of It All…I get my Doris Day movies mixed up. Glad we were able to give Canada a shout out with this page.

Of the ones you mentioned….I have seen all of them (except Thrill). I just watched Rollerball last night….which is one reason he has a page today. Thomas Crown Affair is the one Norman movie I watch regularly…love the ending. Good points about his ability to explore social themes in his movies. As for The Statement….I love Michael Caine….but the stats tell a bleak story….no Oscar love, bad reviews and a minimal box office take. As for the movie…I thought it was ok…Caine makes it easy to root for a bad guy. Good stuff.

  2. I’ve seen 8 of the 22 films on the charts, my favorites are Rollerball and In the Heat of the Night. I’ve also seen – Moonstruck, The Russians are Coming, And Justice for All, Other People’s Money, The Cincinnati Kid and The Thomas Crown Affair.

I may have seen The Thrill of it All and F.I.S.T. can’t remember for sure.

Rollerball was a big favorite back in the 70s, watched it a number of times at the cinema.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up.

Btw The Cincinnati Kid isn’t listed on the main chart.

    1. Hey Steve….The Cincinnati Kid did not want to come to the show until later….lol. Not sure why it did not “download” to the website….that movie has many links already….it stars many people that have UMR pages. So I am guessing your tally is 9. That trails my 16, Phil’s 15 and Flora’s 11 seen. I am right there with you on “The Thrill of it All and F.I.S.T”….seems I have seen it….but right now I am not claiming either movie. Rollerball fascinated me as a kid…..it was one of the first DVDs I bought….huge Caan fan. Thanks for the vote up and the tally count.

  3. I have seen 11 Norman Jewison movies. Eight are in the top 10. This includes The Cincinnati Kid which is not currently on the table.

The HIGHEST rated film I have seen is In The Heat of the Night.

The highest rated film I have NOT seen is And Justice For All.

The LOWEST rated film I have seen is Other People’s Money.

Favourite Norman Jewison Movies: most of what I’ve seen

In the Heat of the Night
    Jesus Christ Superstar
    The Thomas Crown Affair
    The Cincinnati Kid
    The Thrill of It All
    A Soldier’s Story
The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming
    Moonstruck

Other Norman Jewison Movies I’ve Seen:
Fiddler on the Roof – I was in a stage production of this
    Send Me No Flowers
Other People’s Money – not a favourite of Geregory Peck’s career

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Thanks for the visit, the comment and the tally count.
      2. Tally count: Me 17, Phil 15, you 11 and Steve 9.
      3. The Cincy Kid is now on the table….I might not ever know why it did not download….but it has the 12th spot now.
      4. I have seen most of your favorites….I was unsure about The Thrill of It All….but after watching the attached trailer…I realize I had seen that one….you would think I would remember the car in the pool scene.
      5. I have not seen all of Jesus Christ Superstar….just not a huge musical fan…..but I can see watching it in the future.
      6. Very cool that you were in the stage production of Fiddler on the Roof…you are a multi-talented lady.
      7. I agree with you on Other People’s Money…..not one of Peck’s greatest roles.
      Good stuff as always

  4. Hey bob cox…..hmmmm…..it seems like 3 movies have not made the trip from the database to the website…I will have to fix that when I get home. Looking at the “star” rankings at the top…I see The Cincinnati Kid, Gaily, Gaily and an unknown movie are not in the stat table. I have seen 16 of the 24 movies….Moonstruck, In The Heat of the Night and The Thomas Crown Affair are my favorites. Jewison directed some of my favorite actors….James Garner, Steve McQueen, James Caan, Michael Caine and Bruce Willis. Good feedback as always.

  5. I saw 13 including 9 of top 10. 10s and favorites: fiddler on the roof, in the heat of the night, moonstruck. 9 and favourite : the Russians are coming. 9s not favorites:and justice for all, Jesus Christ superstar. hidden gems : Agnes of God an 8 , hurricane an 8 (both easy not to like due to subject matter).
