2. Wasn’t Penelope Cruise married to Tom Cruz at some point? Who was taller?

   I’ve seen 10 of the 42 films on the chart, less than I thought. Favorites are – Pirates of the Caribbean – On Blackbeards Beard, and.. that’s about it. I only dimly remember Blow, Vanilla Sky was pretty bad, Mustache on the Orient Express was hardly worth remaking, Captain Corelli’s Mandarin had nice locations and no Abba songs, and Sahara should have been more fun.

   I do remember enjoying Vicky Christina Aguilera for some reason, might be worth another spin. I’ve never even heard of her top rated films.

   1. Penelope and Tom were lovers from 2001 until 2004 but never married. They separated because of her objections to Tom’s beloved scientology. They are virtually the same height: Tom is 5ft 7ins and Penny 5ft 6ins.

         So it was all Mimi’s fault than. Luckily the other women in his life wanted nothing to with that strange cult and it probably contributed to their parting of ways (or ‘uncoupling’ as Gwyneth Paltrow might say).

            Often one partner in a marriage does not share the same religious convictions as the other. I wonder for example what W o C thinks of her own spouse worshiping the cult of Joel; but in relation to Nicole your are certainly correct in your own surmise. Here’s part of what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:

            “Kidman is Catholic and even considered becoming a nun at one point. Kidman told Entertainment Weekly that the Catholic Church is part of her “essence”, During her divorce from Tom Cruise, she stated that she did not want their children raised as Scientologists. She has been reluctant to discuss Scientology since her divorce.”

   2. Hey Steve…..sorry I missed your Cruz comment. The Cruise/Cruz team never became a married team. As for height….the winner is Cruise by an inch…he is 5 foot 7 and she is 5 foot 6. Of your favorites….ok…..you favorite….I did not like POTC 4 or 5….not to mention POTC 3. POTC 2 was ok….but POTC is a very good movie. Thanks for the many reviews of some of the 10 you have seen. I liked Orient Express…but her role is so small…it barely registers. As for Vicky Christina Aguilera…I agree it is a good movie. Good stuff as always.

3. I used to confuse Penelope Cruz with Rachel Weisz. I have seen Penelope in 4 films: Pirates 2011, Vanilla Sky, Orient Express and To Rome with Love. She has a current reported net worth of $55 million according to Celeb Net Worth and IMDB credits her with 57 acting awards and 116 noms.

   The stats table above suggests that Penelope is not a front-line box office star, but she is in fact better than many of those in my book: she devotes a lot of her money and time to charitable and humanitarian causes.

   For example among many projects she (1) donated the entire salary from her first Hollywood movie [1998’s The Hi-Lo Country] to Mother Teresa’s mission- NO Steve, not to Theresa May’s election campaign! (2) actually worked alongside Mother Teresa in Uganda and India where her duties included assisting in a leprosy clinic (3) is involved in the battle against AIDS by for example joining in measures to eradicate the VIRUS from pregnant mothers to their forthcoming babies.

   Accordingly this new page is warmly welcomed with a “Vote Up!” In short excellent choice WH of a successful actress who has a heart off-screen.

   1. Hey Bob….I get Cruz and Salma Hayak mixed up. George from work gets Cruz, Hayak and Catherine Zeta-Jones mixed up. And you get her mixed up with Rachel Weisz….that is interesting stuff. Tally count…you 4….and me….counting….20. So I am a little under 50%…..but the 20 is more than I would have guessed. Good shout out for her charitable and humanitarian activities. Always good to read when people are giving back…makes up for some of the not so good stories…that sadly out number Cruz’s good story. Thanks for the vote, the visit, the tally and the comment.          So impressed was I with Penelope’s humanitarian work [and as you suggest not enough of it goes on] that I was tempted to quip “More Cruz: Less Crows” but for once I was being unfair to Russell who whilst he doesn’t get down on his hands and knees in a leper colony in the way that Penelope has done, nevertheless he too does charity work [see my separate post today on Russell’s page.]

         The moral of the story: even bad people do good things!

   1. Hey Dan….thanks as always for the information on Penelope Cruz. So she almost has a spot in the Top 500…..not thinking I would have guessed that…but 42 movies listed here is a pretty good total. So…Johnny Depp and Judi Dench are her most frequent Oracle co-stars…too bad Javier Bardem did not make the list. He has to be close himself. I agree…nobody in the final 76……that is indeed strange. 26 Oscar winners is a pretty good tally as well. I actually think she and Bardem have a few more movies together (Vicky Cristina Barcelona). Good stuff as always.
