  1. 1/To me Raquel in terms of proper stardom has bordered almost on being “famous for being famous”. She has been in just 6 movies that have crashed the Cogerson magical 100 million barrier; in 4 of them her roles are subordinate to those of her male co-stars; and in the other 2 she is in what are in effect low billed cameos in one of which she played herself. Her most hyped role has been possibly One Million Years BC but that one gets a low gross and a poor review rating in Bruce’s charts above.

2/On top of her big screen career Wikipedia credits her with (1) 36 TV productions from 1964-2017; 4 stage plays from 1973-97; a music album in 1965; a music single in 1987which reached no 29 in the charts.

3/IMDB credits her with 5 acting awards and 6 noms one of which was a Razzie; and Celebrity Net Worth site opines her current net fortune is $30 million.

4/Moreover Celebrity Net worth site makes the point that despite Raquel’s lack of serious statistical success in her movies “she’s achieved a kind of ‘household name’ popularity that even movie stars have difficulty reaching. I translate that to mean artistically largely “famous for being famous” as I have already suggested.

5/She has no new projects in the pipeline but is 80 this Sept of course. Politically she describes herself as “conservative”.

  3. Like many young guys of my era I fancied the pants off Raquel Welch, she was the ultimate pin up girl of that time. The poster of her in a fur bikini from One Million Years BC was iconic and one of the best selling posters of the 1960s.

I’ve seen 13 of the 33 films on the chart. My favorites are – Fantastic Voyage, One Million Years BC, The Three & Four Musketeers, 100 Rifles and The Naked Gun 3.

I’ve never seen Myra Breckinridge which was derided by critics, noteworthy for starring ancient sexpot and movie legend Mae West.

Fathom is worth a look if only to ogle Raquel for 100mins.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

  4. “Beautiful faces and hour-glass figures were the stuff that Hollywood was made of. Starlets who looked like Raquel Welch were destined for fame, no matter what their acting talent. However, Welch had the misfortune to follow in that tradition in more demanding times. To say that she was trashed by critics is an understatement. She felt the criticism and made efforts to improve her acting skills.”

No 4 Star Raquel Welch performances in 1983’s Rating The Movie Stars.

    1. Another Joel subject off the board…added bonus this was also a request from Mike.
