2. Robert Benton was the art director at Esquire in the early 1960s.

Robert Benton got the idea for his Bonnie and Clyde (1967) script from his father Ellery Douglass Benton who had actually attended the separate funerals of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow.  FYI – 20 different directors refused to film Bonnie and Clyde.  Eventually, Arthur Penn agreed to direct the movie and turned it into an all-time classic.

4. Robert Benton has received 5 Oscar® nominations for writing and 2 Oscar nominations for directing.  He won 2 Oscars® for 1979’s Kramer vs Kramer (writing and directing) and 1 Oscar® for 1984’s Places in the Heart (writing).
