Our UMR Review of The Gentlemen (2020)

Not since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels have I enjoyed a movie by Guy Ritchie this much. I thought Snatch was good but not as great as others think it is. His Hollywood movies have been a big “it’s alright”. In The Gentlemen he returns to his early days. In this one, a British drug lord (Matthew McConaughey) tries to sell off his highly profitable empire. It does not go as smoothly as he would like.

Loved the entire cast in this one. Hugh Grant is a blast to watch. Colin Farrell (not a huge fan) is awesome in this one. This is McConaughey’s best performance in a few years. Charlie Hunnam steals the movie as the drug lord’s right hand man. The twists and turns of the movie are fun to watch unfold. The movie kept me guessing right until the end. Movie is filled with entertaining and funny scenes…..which I will not spoil here. Final thought: Worth seeing once…and for me….worth seeing again.

I feel the same way Cogerson. Saw this movie this afternoon and loved it. The only thing I would add to your review? Mentioning the performance of Michelle Dockery as McConaughey’ wife., which I found sexy and funny.

Good to hear from you SteinHoF16….your comments and feedback have been missed. Glad you enjoyed The Gentlemen as well. Good point on me not pointing out the performance of Michelle Dockery….she is indeed sexy and funny in this one……and one could easily see how Matthew McConaughey’s character could fall for her. Good mini-review. Hope all is going well for you.

This looks promising. Hopefully it is more like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch than it is like RockNRolla and Revolver.
