Cogerson Review of The Last Movie Star

Loved this movie! In this one, Burt Reynolds plays an aging former movie star, who is forced to face the reality that his glory days are behind him. Reynolds is amazing in this movie….which he says “the role of Vic Edwards was the most “honest” he had or would ever play.” Their are some memorable scenes between old Burt and young Burt from his old movies like Smokey and the Bandit and Deliverance. The story is ok…but Burt’s performance is must see.

    HI BRUCE

Though I have never been very interested in Burt Reynolds’ movies generally I always found Burt himself humourous, interesting and likeable in TV interviews that I saw.

I think that from the point of view of longevity he also has to be admired because as you know once upon a time he was the biggest thing in movies and saw it all disappear overnight.

I gather that the writer and director Adam Rifkin wrote the part of Vic in The Last Movie Star especially for Burt and indeed Mr Rifkin said that if Reynolds had turned down the role the film would not have been made.

Anyway top marks to you for reviewing the film because I think Burt’s work deserved continuing recognition in view of the way he has hung in there despite past major disappointments.
