UMR Review of Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Why I watched this one? Really enjoyed Thor 3, really like the Guardians of the Galaxy crew and a huge fan of Christian Bale.

What is this one about? Gor the God killer (Bale) is trying to kill all the gods, while Thor and friends try and stop him.

My thoughts on this one? Gotta say, I was disappointed in this one.

The negatives: The humor does not really work in this one. That is just not my opinion, but also the fact that a crowded theater only laughed one time during my viewing. The movie does a horrible job of balancing humor and drama. The first half of the movie seemed more like a spoof than a MCU movie. Thor and Jane’s costumes looked strange in this one (my wife thought the same thing), which made the movie feel even more like a spoof. The Guardians of the Galaxy crew was wasted, as they did almost nothing in the movie. The grand finale was not really orchestrated very well, as it took some internet research AFTER getting home to fully understand those final scenes. Movie introduces two goats that are beyond irritating. The fight scenes did not really have any suspense in them. Gor’s master plan was pretty vague.

The positives: I liked how the Thor/Jane relationship played out in the movie. Hemsworth is fun to watch. Bale’s Gor is a good villain. Wow that is not many positivies.

Final thought: Certainly not a bad movie, but this one barely gets three stars from me. Which in my book is a pretty average movie.
