Tony Scott Movies

Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010
Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010

Want to know the best Tony Scott movies?  How about the worst Tony Scott movies?  Curious about Tony Scott’s box office grosses or which Tony Scott movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Tony Scott movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

When I awoke this morning I was sadden to see the news that movie director Tony Scott (1944-2012) had passed away. On Sunday, August 19th, 2012 he jumped from a bridge and ended his life.  To quote Ron Howard on Twitter August 20th, 2012….”No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day”. For many months now I have been thinking about doing a movie page on his older brother, Ridley.  However after checking out Tony’s career I was amazed to see that 15 of his 16 movies were already in my database and that I had seen every single one of his movies at least once. So I figured I would do a very quick tribute to one of the best action director over the last 30 years.

Tony Scott directed 16 movies from 1983 to 2010. His films were filled with lots of action and lots of movie stars. He worked 5 times with Denzel Washington, 2 times with Gene Hackman, 2 times with Tom Cruise, 2 times with Brad Pitt, and one time with the following actors….Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Robert Redford, Robert DeNiro, Dennis Hopper, Eddie Murphy, Kevin Costner and John Travolta….not a bad collection of actors in his 16 movies.  This page will rank those 16 Tony Scott movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information.

Tony Scott Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort by Tony Scott’s co-stars of his movies.
  • Sort Tony Scott movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Tony Scott movies by adjusted worldwide box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Tony Scott movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Tony Scott movie received
  • Sort Tony Scott movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

I met Tony Scott a few times when I worked in Malibu and actually hung out with his wife one time. They were such nice people- no attitude but regular down to earth people who were very respectful and kind. I am deeply saddened to hear of his tragic decision to end his life. I feel for his lovely wife and children. I only wish he could have gotten help for whatever emotional or physical ailment was damaging him. He was truly a great film maker and will never be forgotten.

I did not know this director was in charge of so many major films. I heard the name but did not make the connection. Glad you filled me in. I vote up for the hard work you put into the movie-related tables here!

Hey ChristyWrites…..thanks for the visit, the comment and the compliment….they are all greatly appreciated. Tony Scott was someone not known by many in the movie going public….so I am getting a kick out sharing his career with people. It is just a shame that it took an unfortunate act for people to notice him more. But his work will last for a very long time.

His death surely was a tragedy. He was a great director and I’ve seen all but one of the movies in your list. Very nice tribute to this man.
