Tyrone Power Movies

Want to know the best Tyrone Power movies?  How about the worst Tyrone Power movies?  Curious about Tyrone Power’s box office grosses or which Tyrone Power movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Tyrone Power movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

I was looking through my request book when I kept seeing the name Tyrone Power.  When I am deciding my next movie subject I usually look at the requested performer’s movie career and try to guess how difficult it will be to find all the information needed to do this page.  Well with the help of Audrey Soloman’s book Twentieth Century-Fox: A Corporate and Financial History I realized I had box office information on 41 of the 45 Tyrone Power movies.  So having to only research 4 movies,Tyrone Power moved to the head of the requested movie subject line.  So here you go an Ultimate Movie Rankings page on one of the most successful and popular actors from 1936 to 1958…..Mr. Tyrone Power.

His IMDb page shows 52 acting credits from 1925-1959. This page will rank 46 Tyrone Power movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and bit parts were not included in the rankings.

Tyrone Power Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Tyrone Power movies by co-stars of his movies
  • Sort Tyrone Power movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Tyrone Power movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Tyrone Power movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Tyrone Power movie received.
  • Sort Tyrone Power movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
  • Using the sort and search buttons makes this a very interactive table….highly recommend using those two features

I saw 6 of top 10. 10s and favorites: witness for the prosecution, razors edge, the long gray line.
other 3 not so hidden gems: in old Chicago an 8( an early disaster flick like san Francisco), the black swan an 8, a delightful pirate flick, blood and sand a 7(a bullfighting epic with great cast and poor editing). I realize I am so top heavy with best UMR rankings because I use UMR for past 18 months to select my watchlist. YEA UMR. 1 have now seen 900 of top 1000 UMR rankings (from site index labelled top 500). Yea Cogerson. Yea WoC.

Tyrone Power to my wife and myself is one of the most beautiful and talented actors.
We have all of Tyrone’ s movies and watch them on a regular basis.
It is our opinion that Tyrone should have won at least several academy awards.
What a wonderful and talented actor.
    We love him.

Hey J……glad you and your wife (a) are such good fans of Tyrone Power and (b) found our page on him. Thinking…nowhere on the internet do you get a collection of Power stats like you do here. Since doing this page a few years ago, I have become a much bigger fan of him as well. Good feedback.

    HI STEVE

1 My rejuvenated computer has just sent you Tyrone Part 2 so let me know that you’ve received it. The Spam Police don’t appear to have tried to block it.

    2. As you know I was having difficulty in finding my feet with the tablet so as singing cowboy Gene Autry sang in the old cowboy song “Gee it’s great to be back in the saddle!”

        HI STEVE

Got your feedback thanks.. I like the idea of a 75 list if it is reduced to 74 [now I wonder who I want to leave off it among those you mention!] but serious listers would maybe never get away with alphabetical listing at least for the first 20 or so and there would probably be cries of “cop out” and “get off the fence”!

    TYRONE POWER VIDEO

1 ENTRIES 1-22. These POSTERS I liked the best. Witness for the Prosecution, Jesse James, Diplomatic Courier, Johnny Apollo, The Rains Came [a true collectors’ item as for once Myrna actually received top billing] Captain from Castile, Prince of Foxes, Abandon Ship [aka 7 Waves Away] Blood and Sand and another astonishing one for Sun also Rises

2 STILLS which combined with the posters earn your Power video a 98.5% in my book. (1) Ty with Lamour in Johnny Apollo (2) with Tierney in Son of Fury (3) with I think Alice Faye in Alexander’s Ragtime Band?) (4) the seemingly posed lobby card/still with Hayworth and Darnell in Blood and Sand (5) and (6) the two solos from Jesse James and The Black Swan (7) the gorgeous coloured one of Ty with Mo O’Hara from the latter film (8) in the witness box in Witness for the Prosecution and (9) a nicely coloured lobby card of legends Flynn/Power in Sun also Rises.

3 Before AFI published its final lists of the 50 Greatest Movie Legends it floated initial trial drafts and invited comment. Accordingly some names on the trial lists were removed and substituted with other names in the final lists that we are now familiar with. Ty’s was one of the names on the first set of lists but of course is absent from the final ones. A pity

4 Power was set to return to the stage to play opposite Ingrid Bergman in Anna Karenina when he died.
5 You and Bruce agree on 6 of Ty’s Top 10 Best Reviewed films.

Hi Bob, thanks for the review, generous rating and comment, much appreciated.

Glad you enjoyed the posters and stills.

Good to see you’re back on your computer again. I missed your reviews. 🙂

AFI should have compiled a Top 75 Greatest Legends List in alphabetical order, actors and actresses, no rankings or separating the genders. Flynn, Power and Taylor should have been on there. Heston too, and let’s not forget Myrna.

Only one Tyrone Power movie scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – Witness for the Prosecution. Five more scored 9 out of 10 –

      Mark of Zorro ,The
      Lloyds of London
      Nightmare Alley
      Razor’s Edge ,The
      In Old Chicago

Witness tops the IMDB chart and ties with Zorro on the Rotten Tomatoes chart. Witness also tops Bruce’s critics and UMR chart.

Steve’s Tyrone Power You Tube video has a home on our Power page. Our comment on the updated Steve video.

“Nice update. One of my mom’s favorite actors. He reminds me of George Clooney….or does Clooney remind me of T. Power? I watch a ton of his movies after I wrote a page on him…..I found most of his movies interesting….though seeing so many of them so close together has made them get mixed up in my memory. Overall I have seen 18 of the movies listed. #5 The Black Swan is my favorite Power movie…even topping #1 and #2…even I really enjoyed The Mark of the Witness for the Prosecution. #4 The Razor’s Edge is a classic…but I did not like it at all…..nor the Bill Murray version. #14 The Sun Also Rises is interesting….but hard not to think that Flynn and Power did not have much time left as they filmed that one. #15 Alexander’s Ragtime Band is decent….and one of his biggest hits. #20 The Long Gray Line is a very long somewhat boring movie….even with John Ford directing it. Fun video with awesome posters. Voted up and shared at another place.”

Hi Bruce, Power, along with Flynn, were big favorites of my parents and we would watch any film that had those actors in them way back when I was a kid. You’ve seen18, looking at my previous post to Flora on my channel… I’ve seen 16 and Flora has seen 18 too, not bad. Have to confess I haven’t seen The Razor’s Edge or Nightmare Alley, I’ll keep an eye out for them next time they’re on TV. Thanks again for the vote, share and comment, always appreciated.

Razor’s Edge was his second biggest hit….but it was a one and done movie for me….Nightmare Alley has a good Power performance….but his character is not the nicest guy….glad to share your videos….it greatly adds to our pages….even though we have many of the same subjects and compete with each other in google searches.
