Class of 2018

  • Sunshine – Sunshine helped get this website off the ground by sharing links to our pages more than we did….her inclusion in this Hall of Fame is long overdue
  • George V.  – George does not comment too often, but contributes in many other ways.  His biggest contribution was his suggestion for “trailer pages”.  That suggestion has brought in many additional views as well as giving us the ability to include worldwide grosses on many of the movies on the website.

In Memoriam 2018

Every year we lose lots of people….2018 was no exception.  We do not write a UMR page on every movie actor that passes away…..but if it is somebody we feel connected to ….it seems to make us feel better.  In 2018 that happened 12 times.

UMR Pages Written After The Celebrity Passed Away

John Mahoney passed away on February 4th, 2018….Mahoney was most famous for his role on Frasier.  His movie career also had some moments.

John Gavin passed away on February 9th, 2018.   Another one of Hitchcock’s passed away…not many people are left that can say they worked with the master of suspense.

Milos Forman passed away on April 4th 2018.  Forman only directed 14 movies, but One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus won Best Picture Oscars.

Margot Kidder passed away on May 13th, 2018.   Kidder will always be my favorite Lois  Lane.

Clint Walker passed away on May 25th, 2018.  Walker was the star of my parent’s first movie seen together, 1959’s Yellowstone Kelly.

Tab Hunter passed away July 8th, 2018.   Hunter was one of the most popular actors of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Barbara Harris passed away August  16th, 2018.    I was shocked when I realize that Harris had been away from movie screens for so long. One of her last roles was in one of my favorites…Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Neil Simon passed away August 25th, 2018.  Easily the famous modern writer when I was growing up.  Seemed his movies were always in theaters.

Scott Wilson passed away October 7th, 2018.  Most remember him from In Cold Blood and The Walking Dead, but I first noticed him in the Judd Nelson movie Blue City.

Sondra Locke passed away November 3rd, 2018.  She is best known for her partnership with Clint Eastwood.  Their movies are fun, their off screen romance ended horribly.

Stan Lee passed away November 12th, 2018.  His legacy will last for a very long time.  He still has a few more Marvel movie cameos to come.

Nicolas Roeg passed away November 23rd, 2018.  His movies never saw much box office glory, yet, many have become cult classics: Performance, The Man Who Fell To Earth and Don’t Look Now.

UMR Pages Written Before The Celebrity Passed Away

Dorothy Malone passed away on January 19th, 2018.   We were literally researching and writing her page when word came out that she had passed.  She won her Oscar for Written on the Wind.

Burt Reynolds passed away on September 6th, 2018.  Growing up, Burt Reynolds was the biggest star working.   Sad day when I learned of his passing.

William Goldman passed away on November 16th, 2018.  Goldman not only wrote the screenplay for some of my all-time favorite movies like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, A Bridge Too Far and All The President’s Men….but he wrote some of the best behind the scenes books on the movie industry.

Penny Marshall passed away on December 17th, 2018.  Seems I was aware of Penny Marshall all my life.  From her television success to her director success.  Watching Big will never be the same.

Some of the Other Actors/Actresses/Film That Passed Away In 2018

  1. Susan Anspach – Five Easy Pieces, Play It Again, Sam
  2. Bernardo Bertolucci – Last Tango in Paris, The Last Emperor
  3. Ken Berry – Disney Movies
  4. Martin Bregman – Producer of Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico
  5. Mary Carlisle – Star of the 1930s and 1940s
  6. R. Lee Ermey – Full Metal Jacket
  7. Verne Troyer – Mini-Me from Austin Powers

Finally….thanks to everybody that visited these pages and made 2018 a very successful year for us. Looking forward to an even better 2019.

  1. Wonderful recap of the past year’s stats, Bruce. I see Gregory Peck made it to the 16th most popular page.

At the end of the year, the most interesting information for me has always been the Memorials. TCM always has a wonderful video that looks at people in front and behind the camera. Likewise, I enjoyed reading the list of artists who got a UMR tribute page after they died or who died who already had a page.

    1. Hey Flora…I left him on the list just for you….it was a Top 15 list…but when I saw Peck was 16th…I thought….Flora would like seeing that he is one of our most popular pages in 2018….and overall since 2011.

As for the Memorials…I like them as well. I almost feel, I need to do a tribute page on those that pass….as I think many get there movie news here…….though….sometimes…I get concerned…when an older actor (like your recent Anthony Hopkins birthday wish) pops up on the forum list….I think….”I hope he did not pass”……it is even worse when Olivia de Havilland or Kirk Douglas get a comment….lol.

Thanks again for the kind words.

  2. All Time Ticket Sales was one of your best pages Bruce, I’m not surprised it was so popular in 2018. I wish we had that info on every film.

Good stats on the year past. Hopefully this year will be even better.

    1. Hey Steve…..yep All-Time Ticket Sales…booted Marvel Vs DC Movies From The Top Spot. It has really slowed down the last few months…..but maybe it will pick up again. Thanks for the kudos…and for all the support over the years. So to be a better 2019….we have to reach 4.2 million views….that seems a tough mountain to climb….but we will certainly give it our best shot. Good stuff.

  3. Hi Bruce & all,
Thanks for the recap on UMR in 2018 – this is a great summary of another great year for this web site. I also sincerely appreciated the Hall of Fame page where you kindly acknowledge many of your fans and contributors.
Wishing every-one a happy New Year and best of luck to UMR in 2019!
    Phil

    1. Hey PhiHoF17…..thanks for the kudos. Glad you liked our Hall of Fame page….we have some thoughts on making that page bigger and better….but I like how it is getting started. WoC is working on something called a map index page….sounds promising and way out of my pay scale….lol. Hope your New Year was awesome too.

  4. Thanks for all the great support….our 2018 would not have been as successful without everybody that checks out these pages.

Thank you, gracias, merci beaucoup, grazie, ありがとう, do jeh, daw-dyeh, danke sehr, Khop Khun Mak Kha, S감사합니다, takk, mahalo, efharisto, toda
