A few years ago my favorite mother-in-law suggested that I do a movie page on all the live action Disney movies. A quick check on IMDb showed a mind boggling amount of Disney movies…so I put that request off to the side. Well fast forward the tape a few years…..I was at my local library and I found a book called The Disney Films by Leonard Maltin. In that book, Maltin looked at the movies made during Walt Disney’s tenure. So following Maltin’s approach I have done an Ultimate Movie Rankings page on the 86 full length Walt Disney movies made from 1937-1967. That should sort of satisfy my mother-in-law’s request.
His IMDb page shows 657 producing credits and 120 directing credits from 1921-1969. This page will rank 86 full length Walt Disney movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts and some of his documentaries were not included in the rankings. After the massive Walt Disney movie table there is a section of Possibly Interesting Facts About Walt Disney.Walt Disney Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.
Walt Disney Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table
The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Sort/rank the movies anyway you want.
- Sort by Walt Disney movies by star of the movie or by type of movie.
- Sort Walt Disney movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort Walt Disney movies by yearly adjusted domestic box office rank
- Sort Walt Disney movies how they were received by critics and audiences. 60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
- Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Walt Disney movie received.
- Sort Walt Disney movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score. UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
I have always felt the Walt era has started to become underrated Younger people seem to ignore the Walt influenced movies. I love Snow White and The Seven Dwarves & Dumbo. Glad to see that Walt liked Dumbo as much as me.
Hey Princess Bea….I would have to agree with you. I am sure many people consider classic Disney to be Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. They might think Walt was around with the dinosaurs….lol. Yep Dumbo was one of Walt’s favorites too. Thanks for stopping by.
WOW – WOW – WOW…I have seen so many of the above films. I remember showing Bryan and Scotty The Lady and the Tramp as I taped it on a VCR tape – still have it I believe. Wonder if Sam and Em have seen that movie…. He did a great job with all the films and theme parks. ANOTHER GREAT JOB. THANK YOU.
Hey BERN1960….yep when the boys were younger the great Walt movies used to get….the girls have no interest unless the movie is computer animated.. His theme parks are awesome….that part of Walt lives on. Thanks for the comment.
I was looking for my Ariel but she came 30 years to late to make this article.
Hey NoAriel…..yep Ariel came many years after the great Walt era….thanks for looking….the page still has lots of princesses roaming around….lol.
I know all the cartoon movies but do not know many of the others. Glad to see my classic cartoon rocking the box office. My favourite is Snow White and Cinderella.
Hey Heart5…..I think most amazing thing I discovered while researching this page was the fact that he still has 8 of the Top 50 Adjusted Box Office movies…..and we are 50 years later. Glad you found your favorites on the page.
Goodness. Before reading this I thought I knew a lot about Disney movies. Just realized I do not know nothing about Disney. Nice job.
Hey HatTrick. I agree while writing this page I realized that I did not know many of these old Disney movies. When I was a kid…Disney movies played every Sunday night. I do not think many of these classic movies got a chance in the rotation. Love Bug, Gus, Apple Dumpling Gang always seemed in heavy rotation. Thanks for stopping by.
