Wedding Movies

Want to know the best Wedding movies?  How about the worst Wedding movies?  Curious about Wedding movie box office grosses or which Wedding movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Wedding movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which ones got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

This page will rank Wedding movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.

Drivel part of the page:   This page was mainly written on March 22nd 2018….four days before from our oldest daughter’s wedding.  It was finalized and published on the day of her wedding (ok it is 12:01 AM).  How did we come up with the 58 movies?  We were curious if we could come up with 50 Wedding Movies off the top of our heads…..end result….we got our 50 and 8 more movies.  Is this all the Wedding Movies?….heck no…..just the ones that popped up in our heads.

Wedding Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Wedding Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Wedding Movies by the stars in movie
  • Sort Wedding  Movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Wedding Movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Wedding Movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Wedding Movie received.
  • Sort Wedding Movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
These 4 Wedding Movies received a Best Picture Oscar nomination…can you name them?

  1. Hi, Bruce. Congratulations again.

I have seen 17 of the movies.

The films I have seen span The Philadelphia Story to Sixteen Candles.

I have seen 8 of the top 10
    13 of the top 20
    16 of the top 30
    17 overall

    High Society
    The Philadelphia Story
    Bride of Frankenstein
    Father of the Bride (1950)
    Royal Wedding
    Sense and Sensibility
    Four Weddings and a Funeral
    The In-Laws (1977)

The others I have seen in their order:

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Thanks for checking out our Wedding Movies page…..it is appreciated.
      2. Wow….my tally is almost three times bigger than your tally….granted the amount of movies on this list that were made before 1976 are few and far between.
      3. Interesting that both the original and remake of Pha Story reach your Top Movies.
      4. The original In-Laws is still a very funny movie….the remake with Michael Douglas was a huge disappointment.
      5. I love Four Weddings and A Funeral….it along with Notting Hill are the two Hugh Grant movies that I like to watch on a regular basis.
      6. Your percentages always make me feel good about the UMR rating scores….and it happens again on this page…as your % starts at 80%, then drops to 65%….and then drops to 10% when looking at the bottom ranked movies. Thanks for making us think we know what we are doing…lol.
      Good stuff as always.

  2. Great Idea!

I’m sure Bride of Frankenstein is the best film about weddings ever made lol!
Yet, I also love Sense and Sensibility, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Mamma Mia, Muriel’s Wedding, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Steel Magnolias, The Philadelphia Story (but not it’s musical remake), Meet the Fockers and some…

    1. Hey Lupino….I think if Bride of Frankenstein would have actually had a wedding it would be number one…..but Elsa left Boris at the alter….lol. Muriel’s Wedding is unique movie…..my ex-wife loved that movie….and watched it over and over. I am right there with you with regards to High Society….love The Philadelphia Story….but not impressed with it’s remake. Meet The Fockers has some funny moments too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these Wedding Movies.

  3. Love this. So many of my favorite movies. I was actually thinking like this was coming. Perfect page on a wedding day. As for it being on Monday, not a popular day to get married. But if it makes your daughter happy. Enjoy your special day.

    1. Hey Helakoski….thanks for the visit and the good wishes. I guess I am becoming predictable (lol)….as the weekend approached…I did two pages to get us through the weekend….1931 movies and this one…….it was a fun page to do….and probably the movie page I will start sharing every Valentine’s Day. Good stuff.

  4. fun list. I saw 31. you missed the funniest , what happens in Vegas . favorite 10: Philadelphia story, steel magnolias, birdcage, 4 weddings and a funeral, runaway bride, princess bride, what happens in vegas, fandango, my big fat greek wedding, my best friends wedding. I am divorced 23 years. I am a pediatrician. I consider my marriage sort of like a vaccination, I built up my resistance. badda-boom. : ^ )

    1. Hey Bob Cox…..31 is a pretty stout number. Glad to see you mention Fandango among your Top 10…..that is a movie that not many people are aware of…..and one of my all-time favorites as well…even with Kevin Costner in it…lol. All of your Top 10 are fun movies that can be watched repeatedly. You were 100% correct….What Happens In Vegas was not originally on the table….but it along with Love Actually were added. Love Actually was the daughter’s wedding movie….during our Father/Daughter dance she wanted to know why Love Actually was not on the page….well….that issue has been taken care off. I like the vaccination joke….good job. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

  5. Great that you included Bride of Frankenstein in the list of wedding movies, easily my favorite movie here. 🙂

I’ve seen 28 of the 58 movies on the chart.

The Philadelphia Story tops the charts, another favorite of mine.

Vote Up and congrats again on today’s wedding.

    1. Hey Steve…big day here for sure….Katie and Brandon (soon to be SILOC- son-in law of Cogerson) have put together a pretty impressive wedding plan…sure it will not go off without a hitch happening…..but they will be the only two that know the hitch happened.

Glad you like the inclusion of Bride of Frankenstein……Elsa Lanchester has one of the most famous wedding dresses and wedding hairdos of all-time.

I have seen 52 of these movies….of the 6 I have missed only the Bride Walks Out interests me. My favorites would include Bride of Frankenstein, Fandango (Judd Nelson is good in that one), Wedding Crashers, The Philadelphia Story, Four Weddings and A Funeral and The Hangover.

One of my favorite pieces of movie trivia comes from one of the worst movies on the table. The Big Wedding starts off with 4 consecutive Oscar winners doing a line of dialogue….as Robin Williams has the first line of the movie….with Robert DeNiro, Diane Keaton and Susan Sarandon being the next three characters to speak. That is probably the record.

Thanks for the good wishes, the comment and the visit.
