April 19th – Top 25 AFI Actress Rankings By UMR Commenters

Lots of comments and lists on our AFI Screen Legends page…..so we figured it was time to list all the rankings by some of our commenters.  N/A means the actress did not make that person’s Top 25.

  1. I have not been able to keep up my participation within all of the excellent continuing exchanges on the AFI lists over the past couple of days, but I have read every-one’s latest contributions with interest, and appropriate amusement when warranted. It has really been an enjoyable exercise and I’ve learned a lot in the process!
Thank you very much to Bruce for putting it all together in this chart (at least in terms of the actresses list). It’s very nice and handy having every-one choices in one place, together with the UMR picks, and it shows the consideration he gives to our comments 🙂

  2. Hello Bruce,
    I am just like Steve
No rank but top 27 because i cant imagine a list of classical legendary actress or actor without legendary silent stars
    Just put
    Lilian Gish
    Mary Pickford
They represent their generations and i remenbered a reportage about a big party in Pickfair with only the silent stars, it was in LIFE during the fifties
Of course i read it a long time after……
    LOL

  3. Fascinating and easy to read chart, Bruce. That certainly helps our conversations rather than trying to go back and find the lists of everyone on the AFI page for comparisons. Thanks for doing it. Like Steve said, a similar Top 25 Actors chart would be great.

  4. Nice work Bruce. Now we can see at a glance who chose who.

Apart from a couple of b-movie queens, long forgotten silent movie stars and a talented tot, a good solid list of Hollywood Goddesses.

There are 25 ladies on there that fully deserve to be on the AFI list and by sheer magical coincidence they were all picked by someone called steve. 😉

How about a similar page on the Top 25 Actors? Charts are available.

  5. Good summary and a worthwhile pulling together of the often diverse lists. I notice that despite all the recent sound and fury nobody but Steve went for Lana Turner Even my Jane Russell whom Steve has just anointed Queen of the B movies had 2 supports and I’m pleased to see my Doris and Joan also performing credibly. It is also interesting to see Miss Loy at long last breaking out of the confines of the Cogerson ranking lists.
