  1. Bruce McGill on Michael Caine and the making of 1981’s The Hand

“I was looking for any A-features, and Michael Caine really made it an A-feature. So I thought, “Well, sure, that’d be great!” And it was a great experience. I really loved working with Michael Caine. He’s a really skilled and experienced actor. I learn something from everybody, but when you work with somebody like that, you actually learn things you can put in your toolbox, things about craft. Not necessarily life lessons, but actual things he knows that you can pick up.”

  2. Bruce ‘D-Day’ McGill has been a busy actor. I saw National Lampoon’s Animal House at a West End cinema in 1978 and it remains one of my all time favorite comedies.

I’ve seen 24 of the 52 films on the chart, more than I thought. Favorites include – The Last Boy Scout, TimeCop, Collateral, Cliffhanger, Courage Under Fire, My Cousin Vinny and Animal House.

I haven’t seen Ali or Cinderella Man, I usually steer clear of sports related movies no idea why. But I do watch the occasional racing movie like Grand Prix and Le Mans, and will probably see the upcoming Ford v Ferrari (retitled Le Mans ’66 in the UK)

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. D-Day gets some UMR love. At the end of Animal House his character is listed as “unknown”….well now we have the answer to that mystery…..he is at UltimateMovieRankings.com…..lol.

I have seen 39 of his movies…including 7 of them in theaters. Granted…I do not remember the McGill role in all of those 39 movies. In the last month I re-watched My Cousin Vinny (that great Joe Pesci movie) and saw Poms for the first time. I bet I do not go to long before I run into a Bruce McGill movie.

Seen all of your favorites. With Animal House, The Last Boy Scout (“head or gut” is a line my older boys say all the time), Cliffhanger, My Cousin Vinny and Time Cop (easily my favorite JCVD movie) being my favorites as well. Cinderella Man is pretty good….more about the drama of him struggling than being a boxing movie…it is Ron Howard’s last good movie….hopefully he will rebound in the future. Good feedback.

  3. On top of the droves of films listed in the tables above Bruce McGill has had a prolific television career too having been in 36 TV productions in the 40 years 1979-present. He is currently part of the recurring supporting cast in the 2019 TV sci-fi thriller miniseries I-Land, seven episodes of which have been aired so far.

My 4 favorites among his big screen features are Runaway Jury, Cinderella Man, Collateral and especially The Insider. Films of his that I consciously avoided are Animal House as that is not my sense of humor, My Cousin Vinny and Legally Blonde 2, as for me the top star in each of those latter two movies has a screen personality that I’m not comfortable with though the pair are talented enough performer and I’m sure they appeal to many other cinemagoers.

Bruce has a reported net worth of $2 million at present. He is related to the former Texas State Senator A. R. Schwartz. During the 2016 presidential election, McGill narrated a number of commercials promoting Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the thoughts on Mr. Bruce McGill. I agree 100%….the man has been one busy busy actor. I have never heard of his new mini-series I-Land. Surprised you have not seen Animal House….which considered to be one of the funnier movies of all-time. I have seen all of your favorites…with Runaway Jury, Cinderella Man and The Insider being ones I like a lot as well. Not much of a fan of Collateral…..at least the ending of Collateral….do not like when a professional hitman is turned into an idiot at the end of the movie just so we can have a hero saves the day movie. See also The Jackal and many others. Looks like being a supporting actor pays well….as his net worth is pretty impressive for somebody many do not know by name. Good stuff as always.

  4. The immortal Bruce McGill is # 210 on the current Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list; these are the other actors on the list he appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for this breakdown on Bruce McGill. I am not surprised he is so highly rated on the Oracle list. I recently saw him in Poms (which is such an average movie). That got me thinking about all the supporting roles he has played since Animal House. As the tables above and your lists show the man has had one heck of a career.

Looking at the first massive list….looks like Jon Voight, Sam Rockwell and Kathleen Quinlan are his most frequent co-stars…three movies each. Good to see two of my favorites on that list…Willis and Caine. 42 Oscar winners on the second list is pretty impressive….and a total that passes lots of others you have shown in the past. Good stuff as always.
