  1. HI BRUCE

Great “Trading Joels” with you. Llke Welles in the 3rd man and Brando in Godpop Hirsch’s presence seems to have taken over this site even when he’s not about though he mightn’t thank me for the latter comparison!!

    1. Hey Bob….his presence has been here since the Bruce Willis page…..just nobody knew it…..lol. Candice was one of the thespians in the Joel book….you will have to circle it in the index section of the duct tape book that it is now completed….lol.

Some Candice Bergman quotes on her acting….found in Golden Turkey Awards

1967 – “I don’t think acting is for me, and I’m not committed to it…”

1970 – “I’m great at the physical stuff: running, jumping, riding. Acting–that’s another story”.

1971 – “At least I know my limitations–which are legion.”

On 1968’s The Magus…”…Awful. I didn’t know what to do and no one told me. I couldn’t even scrape together the semblance of a performance”

On 1970’s The Adventurers….”I did The Adventurers for the money….selling out wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

She was nominated in that book for Worst Actress of All-Time…her fellow nominees?
Vera Hruba Ralston (unknown to me)
Mamie Van Doren (should do a page on her)
Raquel Welch (think Steve has a video on her)

And their winner? Ms. Raquel Welch.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for giving me a flavour of the Golden Turkeys and the quotes.

I note that Joel has been around for a long time and indeed I am now resigned to the fact that like the poor in The Bible Joel will probably “always be with us”!.

  2. HI BRUCE

Thanks for the additional interesting trivia about Candice.

I hope you enjoy The Golden Turkey awards but if they merge with the Golden Joel Awards in giving The Duke and old Mumbles another slating I hope you will remind yourself of the old adage “What I don’t know will do me no harm!”

I’m giving Joel a fair hearing by going through his comments about my other idols. Here is what he has to has to say about Chuck[and possibly Hirsch is having a go at my Laddie as well].

“Heston always seemed perfectly at home commanding armies or leading biblical crowds over land and sea. Unfortunately more intimate backdrops expose a tight-jawed somberness and a lack of humour Heston is not a flexible actor but filmgoers need an old fashioned Superman to provide contrast to the small average looking Hoffmans, Pacinos and DeNiros.

Ouch! – but why should I suffer alone so I have side copied to Steve this post. Also have we at last learned to understand why Chuck doesn’t feature in any Cogerson ranking lists?

    1. hmmm so Joel Hirschhorn didn’t like Charlton “damn you all to hell” Heston either… interesting… [pins Joel’s picture on a dartboard]

Bob, you’re on to something there, it might explain why Bruce has been giving Chuck the cold-shoulder all these years… Joel has been more influential than we realise. [Bruce snarls]

      😉

      1. Hey Steve….Chuck might not have made my Top 100 Stars list (50 actors and 50 actresses)…..but I like Mr. Heston. I will have to see what Joel had to say about Chuck….the quote Bob shared does not seem all that harsh. Of all the screen attributes Heston had….not thinking his sense of humor was something that made him so famous. If I did not like Chuck….there is no way he would have so many photos scattered around the website. We have a rule when adding photos to the page….when in doubt include a photo with Grant, Caine, Loy, Willis or Heston. The defense rests.

    2. Hey Bob….wow you have the Joel edge on me….as I am not currently near the book…Rating The Movie Stars. Seems overall Joel gave Heston’s movies good reviews. I think his comments are mostly positive about Chuck in general. Nobody, including Steve, would argue that Heston became famous for his humorous movie roles. I will check out my non duct taped Joel book later today…and provide some good Joel Chuck comments.

      1. BRUCE

I actually quoted one of the positive comments about Chuck from Joel as I did in Marlon’s case but you must understand that to Steve and me guys like Chuck, Mumbles and The Duke are perfect and there should be NO negative comments about them in our estimation.
