After their divorce he found superstardom. Today after a run of failures, he’s struggling once again to scale the ladder. Elliott Gould’s low-keyed manner is really ill-equipped for lead playing, and Gould should be exercising far more judgement in script selection to build a credible image.     1. Hey Dan. Wow….Elliott Gould has a wonderful spot on the Oracle list. I guess it is surprising because the days of a movie being considered “an Elliott Gould movie” are long gone. But when one looks at his massive IMDb page you see he has worked almost non stop for over 50 years. And even though he is over 80 he is still cranking out the movies.

      First list. Good to see one of my favorites at the top of the list and another of my favorites, James Caan, as his most frequent co-star. Heck all three were in Harry and Walter Go To New York….a movie that should have been better. 44 Oscar winning co-stars is pretty good.   3. I have seen 7 Elliot Gould movies.

    I have never seen The Long Goodbye, but that will change as TCM is airing it next Wednesday as part of a celebration of 100 years of United Artists every Wednesday this month.

    The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is M*A*S*H.

    The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Ocean’s 11.

    The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The Muppets Take Manhattan.

I liked The Long Goodbye….it has a very bold ending…and a ending that many people really love. I would also suggest The Silent Partner. That one is a bank heist movie that pits Gould vs Christopher Plummer. It is a good thriller….and I think it is considered a Canadian movie. Glad you enjoy one of my all-time favorites as well…..as A Bridge Too Far will always be one of my favorites. Good stuff as always.

    I’ve seen 14 of the 73 films on the chart, hmm less than I thought.

    I managed 10 watched out of 30 on my video but your chart lists 43 films more!

    Favorites include – Oceans 11, Capricorn One, MASH, Bugsy, The Big Hit, The Naked Gun 3, American History X and A Bridge Too Far.

    Elliott Gould’s most famous film – MASH – still tops all the charts including box office. It will be 50 years old next year!

    1. Hey Steve. My tally is 28…so I exactly double your total. I have actually seen numerous of his late movies….most are not too impressive. I will say I did enjoy him in 2017’s Humor Me. He played a retiree that lives in a senior community and has his son return home to live with him. He was funny in that one. Of your favorites….A Bridge Too Far is one of my all-time favorites. Capricorn One is a fun movie and features both Mr. Barbra Streisands. As for MASH….one of the few times I like a television version more than the movie version. Hard to believe that movie is closing in on 50 years. Good stuff as always.

  5. In his early years many people predicted very big things for Elliot when he appeared in the back-to-back smash box office hits (1) MASH and (2) Bruce and Myrna and Joel and Asta, and then showed his versatility by playing legendary fiction tough guy Marlowe in The Long Goodbye.

    The excellent still of him above in the latter film reminds me of how in the film noir 1940s they used to help toughen up Ladd’s screen image by showing him with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, almost contemptuously. I must confess though that the persona of the young Gould never appealed to me for some reason.

    Unfortunately whilst he did in those early times play a string of leading man roles as mentioned above, he never made top stardom. I though enjoyed his sporadic 20 supporting appearances in later life as Jack Geller the father of Monica and Ross Geller [Courtney Cox and David Schwimmer respectively] in the 263 episode sitcom Friends [1994-2003] and in that role he impressed me with a warmth and funniness that I had never detected in the young Gould.     Accordingly I warmly welcome this new page and a further plus for Gould in my eyes is of course that as Bruce says above he married Barbra Streisand [1963-71] According to Celebrity Net Worth Elliot has currently a net fortune of $20 million.

    2. Hey Bob…thanks for checking out our Elliott Gould page. I agree after a hot start to his movie career…things quickly cooled off for him. His time as A level actor was short….but he has had a wonderful long career. Minus Matilda…which was made in the wake of the success of Rocky…so the producers decided the public loved boxing movies…so let’s give them a boxing kangaroo movie. That movie also has a Robert Mitchum role as well. I never really watched Friends…I saw the Bruce Willis episodes….but for some reason that show was never “must watch” for me. I am glad to know his role in the show was appealing. I always knew he was married to Streisand….but never realized it was almost 10 years. Good stuff as always.
