I have seen 6 of these movies. Escape to Athena is one of BERN1960’s favorite guilty pleasures to watch. Tombstone is one of my all-time favorite westerns. Leviathan is an underrated science fiction horror movie. Not a huge fan of either Stallone movies…but like so many I saw Rambo 2 in theaters. I can barely remember his last movie The Shadow Conspiracy.
I love his movies. Some are pure action from start to finish. He was a fan of “word of mouth”. Although not many saw his horror movie Of Unknown Origin, Sage Stallone, one of Sly’s kids loved that movie and talked to his dad. That got George Cobra and Rambo, which eventually got George the gig on Tombstone. He lived pretty close to us when he passed away. His last couple of years were pretty rough. So glad to see somebody talking about him.
Hey Kevin. Great comment. I agree he had some great word of mouth. I knew Stallone had told Kurt Russell about him about taking on Tombstone. I did not know Sage Stallone is the one that got his dad on the Cosmatos bandwagon. Sorry to hear his last few years were rough, I know he passed at a relatively young age. Good stuff.
I thought he had made more movies. Cobra is a guilty pleasure for me. Might be a record holder for most deaths of henchmen wearing black helmets. My brother and I still say “You’re a disease, and I’m the cure” to each other. Tombstone is his masterpiece. Nice look at his career.
Hey Taylor. Good information on Cobra. Funny that his disease quote is one you and your brother use with each other. My son and I do the same thing with each other….only it is from Groundhog Day when Bill Murray hugs Ned Ryerson….”I have missed you so much….I do not know where you are going…but can you call in sick?” As for Cobra…not a favorite but I do remember Sly taking out lots of bad guys in that one. I agree Tombstone is easily his masterpiece. Good stuff as always.
