  1. JOn Favreau is no longer on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list which is rather strange when you see the people he has worked with. Here are the actors on the list he has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan. I agree with you 100%. It is very strange that he is not on the Oracle list. Just his many roles in the MCU movies would seem enough to crack the Top 1000. Not surprised to see Vince Vaughn as his most frequent co-star on the first list. 38 Oscar winners is very very impressive. Granted his movie acting career is quickly approaching 30 years. Endgame alone should get him close to the Top 1000. We currently have UMR pages on 23 of the people that appeared in that blockbuster hit. Good stuff as always.

  2. aaah Jon Favreau, what a success story he’s had. He started the Marvel Cinematic Universe off with a bang, directing Iron Man in 2008 which was one of the big hits of the year. This year he has The Lion King under his belt, $1.5bn and still in the top 10.

Robert Downey Jr must be eternally grateful, Favreau fought to cast him as Iron Man and now he’s one of the richest actors in the world.

I’m surprised Bob found a favorite among the films on the chart. 😉

I’ve seen 23 of the 41 films listed. Favorites include – all the Marvel movies, Batman Forever, Deep Impact, Cowboys & Aliens, John Carter, Zathura, Solo, The Jungle Book and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Bruce, unless I’m blind you’ve left out The Jungle Book (2016) which Favreau directed and was a huge hit a few years ago.

Nice work though it might have been better if you mentioned whether Favreau was a producer, director or actor in each of those films. I know it’s a hassle. 🙂

    Vote Up!

    1. HI STEVE

So I was right: you probably do know what Jon had for supper last night! I should have consulted you rather than Wiki when I was researching him, or else simply waited for your post.

You will see from my comments that my two faves were not the action movies but (1) Nicholson’s Something’s Gotta Give – lovely “mush” with Jack in romantic mood for once (2) The Jolf of Wall Street – I always like Scorsese.

Hopefully I’ll be catching up with you again later if you introduce a new subject of your own today.

    2. Hey Steve. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Jon Favreau. I actually completed this page when The Lion King was about to open….just never got around to writing the page. Favreau has had an incredible 2019. Good part in End Game (love his scene at the end with Iron Man’s daugther), fun comic relief part in Spidey 2 (part reminds me of Caine’s in The Dark Knight trilogy) and The Lion King (saw it this weekend…not too impressed).

You were right…The Jungle Book was not listed here originally….I cleverly deleted it…..and forgot to add it back in….but on the latest website update….it picked up my mistake….and it is now back on the table. Tally count…me 38, you 24 and Bob 6. I have seen all of your favorites…and enjoyed them all….with Cowboys and Aliens being near the bottom of my favorites. Good stuff as always.

  3. Jon Fav -WHO? I asked myself when I saw the name flagged up on this site, so once again I am indebted to Cogerson for encouraging me to educate myself about a movie figure who appears to be a bit of an “all- rounder” in terms of talent: if either the Cogerson or Lensman site profiles a personality unknown to me, I make it a rule to as soon as possible research the career of him/her.

Having done so in Jon’s Case I find that (1) he has 6 awards and 11 nominations to his credit (2) Bruce’s description above of Jon as “one of the most successful” is very accurate because he has a reported net worth of $60 million engendered since his debut with movies in 1992.

I have also found from my research that Wikipedia opines that Jon is best known for his overall “work with the Marvel Cinematic Universe” so it is unsurprising that I am not familiar with him personally, though it is not improbable that this site’s super/action-hero guru Steve could tell us what Jon had for supper last night!

As it is I find that I have seen 6 of the films listed above:

1/2Two of the 3 Iron Man films-not sure which ones, probably the earlier pair.
    3/Lensman Forever
    4/Elf
5/Something’s Gotta Give – my personal favourite among the 6.
6/Wolf of Wall Street – my 2nd fave.

As I enjoyed all of those and as Jon, with his diverse contribution to movies, seems like the type of guy who has earned his success[is not just one of the “famous for being famous” crowd] I “Vote Up” this new page and once more register my pleasure in learning about Jon.

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for checking out our Jon Favreau page. Glad we were able to put him in the spotlight for you to see. For a very long time he was almost in the shadow of his buddy Vince Vaughn. But…his directing of Iron Man 1 and 2 and his recurring role as Happy Hogan in the MCU have put Vaughn in his shadow. Tally 6 is not too bad. My tally is at 38. Steve is at 24 (counting The Jungle Book). Favreau has had a very good year. He has appeared in two movies and directed one…the worldwide total for those 3 movies?…almost 6 billion…..and all three are still earning money. Good to see his hard work has paid off in career earnings and awards. I would recommend his Chef….that is a fun movie….he wrote and starred in that one….and got some high powered friends to appear in supporting roles. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE Thanks for the feedback. Interesting you should highlight Vince Vaughn. My own fave Vaughn movie is 1998’s A Cool Dry Place, which holds nostalgic memories for me as I borrowed it for viewing from one of your Blockbuster video libraries during my visit to the State in 1999.

I have read that when Vince was co-starred with J Lo in 2000’s The Cell that movie was regarded as an attempt to consolidate his bid for major stardom and for a while it seemed to work. Your Vaughn page shows that between 2000 and 2009 he had 8 movies that crossed your magical $100 million prestige line for adjusted domestic grosses per movie, and those 8 had a total adjusted US gross of around $1.4 billion, an average of approx $175 per movie. Very respectable!

However in the 10 years since 2009 he seems to have faltered badly and your tables record that in those 10 years he had been in 13 movies that have grossed in total just approx an adjusted $310 million in the US- a paltry average of about $24 million per movie [you know how I love rounding figures!].

Therefore it would seem that Vince’s top-star days such as they were, are behind him. Do you agree? Indeed he does not seem to have done enough in his heyday up until around 2010 to be listed even among the ‘closely considered’ actors for inclusion in your Legends 1950-2010 lists; and any mention at all among those listed in your book seems to have been well beyond Vince. It’s not all doom and gloom for him though as he has a reported net worth of $50 million.

Take care. Your namesake, the great Brit entertainer Bruce Forsyth, used to close his Strictly Come Dancing TV show with advice to the audience to “Keep dancing!” so my advice to Bruce Cogerson is “Keep teaching – and grossing!”

        1. Hey Bob. I agree that his leading man days are probably behind him. I imagine he is a big enough name to be the lead actor in low budget movies, but his run of big budget flops probably sunk the leading man boat. That being said…I think Vince Vaughn has a very good chance to become a solid supporting actor. I really enjoyed him in Fighting With My Famil, Hacksaw Ridge and Dragged Across Concrete. Good feedback…copied these two comments to the Vince Vaughn page.
