    1. Hey Dan. Great lists as always. Good to see Dame Judi in the Top 200. Pretty impressive since she does not really make too many movies. Lots of James Bond connections in the first list. Maggie Smith is her most frequent co-star…..and that does not even include the recent….Dinner With The Dames…or whatever it was called. Shocked she and Michael Caine have not made a movie together…..I bet their mutual co-star list would be massive! After some recent low Oscar winning co-star totals….she brings home a very good total. Once again Maggie Smith, leading the way in most movies together. Good stuff.

  2. Many modern cinemagoers will possibly best know 85 years old Dame Judy as the female M in the 7 James Bond films mentioned above, but I first ran across her on screen when she was one of the many “lovely young things” who adorned British films in the 1960s.

The movie concerned was 1965’s Brit thriller A Study in Terror which was a Sherlock Holmes outing in which the Great Detective locks horns with London’s notorious Jack the Ripper. It is not included in the table above but IMDB gives it a respectable 66% rating.

Since those days Dame Judy’s film career has blossomed with a prolific output which overall has earned her 64 acting awards and 174 nominations and her net worth is said to be $35 million. She can regard her wealth too as a fine achievement as it probably would have been beyond the wildest dreams within the British film industry of actresses who started out in the kind of roles that she played in her early career.

Dame Judy is a United Kingdom charity Patron and has also been involved with charity work abroad for poor and oppressed peoples. She criticised reaction to the sexual misconduct allegations made against Kevin Spacey, describing him as “a good friend”

All-in-all it is therefore quite easy to welcome and “Vote Up” this new page for Dame Judy. On a lighter note she had the accolade in 2013 of being listed by the United Kingdom’s prestigious Guardian newspaper as one of the 50 Best Dressed People over the age of 50.

    1. Hey Bob Roy…I tried to find box office information on her “lovely young things” movies of the 1960s….but I failed in that regard. I actually saw a movie poster that featured a young Dench….and it took me aback somewhat…..seems she was always the older lady…and never the sexy young lady.

This is probably the biggest gap from first movie made….and first movie to get an UMR score….over 20 years! She has picked up many awards over the last 30 years. Interesting about her and Spacey…..probably hard on her since they were friends. Good information throughout your comment. Cool…about her nice personal wealth and making the Best Dressed list. Good stuff.

      1. HI BRUCE

Thanks for feedback, for trying to find a gross for Study in Terror and for your reply to my post about your book.

  3. Only 1.1 billion in box office when we exclude her Bond and Pirates vehicles. I think she is a great actress. 1.9 billion from vehicles for 3 bil total. she is no Myrna Loy! her 4 best actress nominations totalled 60 mil in box office. reminds me of Daniel day lewis except she may have become one of the great supporting actresses of all time with Thelma ritter ( 6 nominations), elsa Lanchester (2 nominations), angela Lansbury (3 nominations), agnes moorehead (4 nominations), none of whom won a supporting actress Oscar as dench did (2 nominations). other highly nominated supporting actresses: meryl streep 4/1 win(might have lead actress potential), Maureen stapleton 4/1, Maggie smith 4/1, lee grant 4/1, ethyl barrymore 4/1, amy adams 4/0, Geraldine page 4/0, shelley winters 3/2, Dianne wiest 3/2, marisa tomei3/1, Octavia spencer 3/1, Claire trevor 3/1, cate blanchett 3/1, celeste holm 3/1, anne revere 3/1,kate winslet 3/0, glen close 3/0, francis mcdormand 3/0, Gladys cooper 3/0

    1. Hey bob cox…..thanks for the return comment and the box office breakdown. I agree if you take out her James Bond movies, her box office totals are not too impressive. Her strength is in the review column…..with the exception of Doogal…..all of her movies are in the 50% range or higher…that is 98% of her movies. I agree she is indeed one of the greatest supporting actresses. I did not realize her 7 Oscar nominations had been in such a short time frame (18 years)…..that is almost Streep like….almost a nomination every other year. Good stats on the other supporting actresses….happy to say I have UMR pages on 12 of them. Great comment!

  4. I have seen 11 Judi Dench movies, including 7 of the top 10.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Shakespeare in Love.

The highest rated film I have NOT seen is Skyfall. Although I am a James Bond fan, I stopped watching the franchise after Pierce Brosnan. Daniel Craig never interested me.

The LOWEST rated film I have seen is The Shipping News.

    Favourite Judi Dench Movies:

    Shakespeare in Love
    A Room With A View
    Goldeneye
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    The World is Not Enough
    Die Another Day
    Chocolat
    Iris
    Mrs. Brown
    Tea With Mussolini

Only Judi Dench Movies I Have Seen that is NOT a Favourite:

    The Shipping News

    1. Hello Flora. Tally counts: Cogerson 29, bob cox 21 and Flora 11. Pretty impressive totals for you. Not thinking you reach double digits too often with current thespians. Though at 84 how current of an actress is she….lol. I have seen all of your favorites except for Mrs. Brown. I just recently watched Tea With Mussolini. She might have had the best part in the movie…..at least the most memorable. Hmmmm…bob cox liked The Shipping News….while that movie is the only one that you did not like……interesting….very interesting. Good stuff as always.

  5. I saw 21 including top 15 and 5 of bottom 17. 10s and favorites: Shakespeare in love, chocolat. 10 not favourite: henry the fifth. 9 and favourite: 84 charing cross road, 2 fabulous performances in charming correspondence drama, with Hopkins and Bancroft a hidden gem. other hidden gems: the shipping news an 8 with K spacey and J moore, the chronicles of Riddick an 8 good scifi.

    1. Hey bob cox. Thanks for checking out our Judi Dench page. I have seen a shocking 29 of her movies. No idea I had seen so many of her movies….including the Top 19! Not thinking I have a favorite Dench movie. I was not in love with Skyfall as so many others were. I did like 84 Charing Cross Road. I have not seen The Shipping News. Good stuff as always.
