  1. I saw 14 including 9 of top 12. 10 and favorite: blind side, 10s not favorites: fried green tomatoes, titanic. 9 and favorite failure to launch( 30 belly laughs). 9 not favorite : primary colors(incledible cast). hidden gems: rumor has it 8, prelude to a kiss 8

  2. Richard Jewell is not in my database yet since it won’t be released till next week but you can add Sam Rockwell to both lists.

Dolores Claiborne was my best film of 1995. Thinking of that and going off topic, The Irishman has won both the National Board of Review and New York Film Critics award for best picture. I disagree, it’s recycled Scorsese.

      1. Thanks as always for this feedback.
      2. Both lists are massive and impressive.
      3. Dolores Claiborne…is an underrated movie…but it was your favorite of the year….and Bates’ personal favorite year.
      4. I remember one line from that movie….the older lady that Bates is taking care of says….”I don’t think I am ever going to get better”. A line that talks about mortality….and a line that rattles around me head all the time like Clint in Unforgiven…..”We all have it coming kid.”
      5. Looking at the first list…..how did she manage to not work with Caine and Willis…..that seems so strange that have never crossed paths.
      6. 50 Oscar winning co-stars is awesome….one of the best totals for an actress…and up there for all thespians.
      Good stuff as always.

  3. “I’m your number one fan.” Kathy Bates so memorable in Misery, breaking James Caan’s legs so he can’t escape, cinema’s ultimate ‘fan from hell’.

69 films? Wow, busy lady. I’ve seen just 9 of them, favorites are – Misery, Titanic, Dick Tracy and The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Top rated films I haven’t seen – Midnight in Paris and About Schmidt.

Titanic far and away her most successful film, $4bn adjusted? That’s bigger than Avatar isn’t it? Whoa! What do Debbie Reynolds and Kathy Bates have in common? They both played RMS Titanic survivor Molly Brown.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for the visit, comment and tally count. Speaking of the tally count. my total of 44 tops the combined total of 23 you, Flora and Bob collected. I agree with you 100% about her role in Misery, one of the greatest villains in movie history. Yep, Titanic had almost 4 billon in adjusted worldwide box office. Seeing all of your favorites, with Misery being my favorite too. As for the ones you have missed, Midnight in Paris is pretty good, probably going to be Woody Allen’s last great movie. As for About Schmidt, I thought it was ok, but WoC really really disliked it. Good trivia about Bates and Reynolds and Molly Brown. Good stuff.

  4. I have seen 9 of the movies in the above tables. My favourites among them are Misery, Dolores Claiborne, About Schmidt and Midnight in Paris. On top of her big screen career Kathy has appeared in (1) 13 TV movies (2) 30 other kinds of television productions as well as directing 9 TV presentations (3) 9 stage plays.

As well as all of that in 2006 Kathy co-starred with Melanie Griffith in Bates’ first [and as far as I am aware, to date her only] directorial assignment Have Mercy. I can find no income for it and IMDB gives it just a 46% rating.

Kathy has a reported current net worth of $32 million and IMDB credits her with 36 acting awards and 88 nominations. She has successfully fought ovarian cancer since it was diagnosed in 2003; and her battles there have not stopped her from participating in civil rights campaigning. Her new Cogerson page is hereby “Voted Up!”

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for the comments and thoughts on Kathy Bates. Tally count Cogerson 44, Steve and Bob 9, and Flora 5. I agree, she has been incredibly busy actress on the big screen and the small screen. As for Have Mercy, there is almost no information on that movie…makes me wonder how people saw that movie. I suspect she is about to get lots more attention, with her performance in Richard Jewell being seen. I bet that attention starts tomorrow with the Golden Globe nominations. Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BIG BOY: Thanks for the feedback and your further thoughts on Kathy. 44 “have seens” – wow! Your predictions about Kathy and Richard Jewell are heartening as it is good to see a performer continually doing well on the basis of talent and not relying on hyped-up “sex appeal” that titillates the press and fan magazines – ie is in or around the “famous for being famous” set.

Regarding Have Mercy, I always thought that career-wise Melanie Griffith’s case was a sad one. Working Girl suggested that she was booked for big things; indeed I remember coming out of Working girl with a member of my movie buffs group who has long being a friend and him saying to me “Bob, I think we’ve found the next Myrna Loy.”

As it was, since Working Girl way back in 1988 she has been in just two financial hits: (1) 2nd female lead in 1994’s Nobody’s Fool [said to be based on the life of rock star, stage artist and wannabe film critic Joel Hirschhorn] starring Newman/Mr Gimme More (2) 2002’s Alan Little [supporting voice role with Geena Davis the lead female].

Still Melanie “hasn’t starved” as the saying goes: Celeb Net Worth site credits her with $40 million in the bank at the moment. I bet though she would prefer a Cogerson page – or her head on a national coin, as Federer’s is appearing on Swiss coins.

        1. Hey Bob….Golden Globes nominations come out in a few hours…I suspect Bates will here her name called for Richard Jewell. I am trying to figure out how to get those nominations listed here….and be in school. Ah….my main problem…so much to do and so little time to do it.

As for Melanie….she has almost gotten an UMR page a few times…and one day it will happen. Hard to believe that her breakthrough role was 31 years ago. That movie was one of Alec Baldwin’s first noticed roles as well. Hmmmm….interesting that she did really have much box office success. Besides Stuart and Fool….I thought Milk Money made a little money….but turns out…in did in fact make just a little money…lol. Good stuff.

          1. HI BRUCE: Thanks for the additional feedback. Fingers crossed for the Globes and I’m grateful for the financial info on Milk Money. As you nearly always do you have encouraged me to further research something that you mention –

            WIKIPEDIA
“Milk Money received negative reviews from critics. Siskel and Ebert speculated that it may have been made by Hollywood executives with an affinity for hookers. In print, Roger Ebert opted not for a conventional negative review, but to portray it as the result of a fictional conversation between two studio executives.”

Anyway there seems to have been a “career curse” on the women of the family. Not only did Melanie’s own career quickly run into the sand but her mother Tippi claims that Hitch ruined her owned her own career.

Tippi says that because she wouldn’t sleep with Hitch he held onto her contract and would not let her work for other producers. I hope Steve doesn’t see this post as he does not like to see any criticism of Alfred surfacing.

Another Great icon let her down as well. When she did eventually get what on paper looked like a good part in Chaplin’s Countess from Hong Kong alongside The Great Mumbler and Loren it turned to to be a critical dud and one of Mr M’s last great box office disaster before Godpop came to the rescue.

  5. I have seen 5 Kathy Bates movies, Four of these films are in the top 10.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have see is Dick Tracy.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Titanic.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.

    Favourite Kathy Bates Movies:

Come Back to the 5 and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
    Fried Green Tomatoes

Other Kathy Bates Movies I Have Seen:

    Dick Tracy
    About Schmidt
    Misery

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for the comment on our brand new Kathy Bates page. That leaves only single digits (9 more to go) of Best Actress Oscar winners that need an UMR page. 5 is not a bad number of Bates movies to have seen…..since only one of them was made before the 1976 line. I have seen a surprising 44 of her movies….I had no idea I had seen so many of her movies. I have not seen one of your favorites…Come Back to the 5 and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Overall…you have seen 2 of the 3 Oscar nominated Bates performances….though I strongly suspect a 4th Oscar nomination is coming in the next couple of months….I actually think she has a chance for her 2nd Oscar win for her performance in Richard Jewell. Not sure if I remembered you not seeing Titanic…..it looks amazing on my 3D tv……that movie is closing in on a quarter of a century old…..how did that happen?….lol. Good stuff as always.
