  1. I have seen the top 5 Madonna movies. I don’t remember her cameo in Die Another Day. Of course, I know her song well. Her music was big part of my teen years.

    Favourite Madonna Movies:

    A League of Their Own
    Die Another Day

    Other Madonna Movies I Have Seen;

    Dick Tracy
    Evita
    Desperately Seeking Susan

    1. Hey Flora. I am really surprised you have seen so many of her movies. Your 5 seen is right behind Steve’s 6. I have seen 16 of her movies….and I am not a fan at all. Interesting that she was a big influence on the young Flora. Your teenage years when be at the height of her popularity. I have seen 4 of the 5 movies you have seen…the only one I have missed is Evita. I guess A League Of Their Own would be my favorite. Good stuff!

  2. HI BRUCE: Thanks for the comprehensive response. You know that I always value and enjoy your feedback; particularly as Steve has deserted me this week so that if I were a gal and he and I were lovers instead of ‘pen-pals’ I would be crying out

“O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo!”
(Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene II, Lines 33–36).

Thanks for reminding me of Guy Ritchie and Sean Penn as MADONNA’s lovers. Continuing such Dan-like links Sean and Brando were friends and mutual-admirers both being perceived as political “Lefties”.

By the way, the amount that Brando’s estate was suing Madonna for was $300,000. I can’t do an inflation adjustment as I don’t know what year it was in or what the eventual settlement was. However it was after Marlon’s death and it does seem like chicken-feed compared with the vast sums those two earned in their time.

Anyway keep safe and my best wishes to all of Clan Cogerson.

    1. Hey Bob
      1. Madonna was actually married to Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie.
      2. The Madonna/Penn marriage lite up the tabloids for a few years.
      3. The Madonna/Ritchie marriage was tame compared to her Penn marriage.
      4. 300,000 is good amount of money for the Brando estate.
      5. You stay safe as well.
      6. School is down to less than 20 days….not being around 135 students everyday should make staying safe a lot easier for me…lol.

      1. “School is down to less than 20 days….not being around 135 students everyday should make staying safe a lot easier for me…lol.” – from Cogerson today.

Beside yon straggling fence that skirts the way,
        With blossomed furze unprofitably gay,
There, in his noisy mansion, skilled to rule,
The village master taught his little school; ———-
And still we gazed, and still the wonder grew
That one small head could carry all he knew.

[The Village Schoolmaster by Oliver Goldsmith from The Deserted Village Published 1770]

  3. IN Madonna’s song Vogue homage is paid to the following 15 movie Legends in the order I have listed:

    Gene Kelly
    Fred Astaire
    Ginger Rogers
    Rita Hayworth
    Lauren Bacall

Here are Madonna’s lyrics to that famous section of the song:

    Greta Garbo, and Monroe
    Dietrich and DiMaggio
    Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean
On the cover of a magazine

    Grace Kelly; Harlow, Jean
    Picture of a beauty queen

They had style, they had grace
    Rita Hayworth gave good face
    Lauren, Katharine, Lana too

    Ladies with an attitude
Fellows that were in the mood
Don’t just stand there, let’s get to it
Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it

    1. Hey Bob…good information on her Vogue song. I am happy to say I have UMR pages on all of them. I know I am equally shocked that Loy, Grant and Gable did not make the song. Good stuff.

  4. Madonna definitely deserves her Cogerson page in my view; but as Bruce’s lead-in above suggests whilst she is perceived as one of the greatest entertainment icons of all time that is on the strength of her “Queen of Pop” image rather than as a movie star.

Nevertheless as WH’s tables show her movies CV is quite respectable and her affinity with top stars in movies include as well as the female Legends mentioned in 5 of WH,s Interesting Facts above: homage to Brando and other movie Legends in one or two of her songs***; but more significantly her past personal platonic association with Kevin Costner and her romance with Warren Beatty – join the queue! – in whose Dick Tracy she had a supporting role as illustrated in Bruce’s tables.

He could often be seen hanging around her dressing room in the old days. Warren I mean – Not The Work Horse!

To be honest her music was never my cup-of-tea and to my eternal shame in earlier days silly ole Bob would -despite the feminine spelling of her name – confuse her in his mind with the iconic footballing Legend the late Diego Maradona who sadly died somewhat prematurely just before Christmas last.

Anyway Madonna, Maradona are along with Brando usually fixtures on any broad icons/legends list so this new page is “Voted Up”

***ADDITIONAL TRIVIA: On the negative side Madonna was obliged to resolve litigation with Marlon Brando‘s estate over using the actor’s image when she performs the song “Vogue” in concert.

    1. Hey Bob. Thanks for checking our latest page. G. Vandross from work was giving me a hard time for not having a Madonna page…..well…we now have a Madonna page. Her movie career was much larger than I would have guessed.

I agree….the Queen of Pop is indeed a singer first and an actress second. Interesting about her previous relationships…almost a Hall of Fame of famous men. Four of which have their very own UMR page…you mentioned Costner and Beatty……you can add 2 time Oscar winner Sean Penn and director Guy Ritchie to that list.

As for her music….I liked some of early songs…..but my friends went crazy for her. I even saw her in concert during her peak days…..I remember within a month I saw her and Bruce Springstein in concert….both were major major events.

Interesting about the Brando estate and Vogue….I have not heard that song in ages. Probably means I will her it before the end of the day. Good stuff as always.
