Marilyn Monroe Movies

Want to know the best Marilyn Monroe movies?  How about the worst Marilyn Monroe movies?  Curious about Marilyn Monroe’s box office grosses or which Marilyn Monroe movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Marilyn Monroe movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962), started showing in movies in 1947.  Most of her early films were either uncredited or very small parts. Her first major role was in the B feature Ladies of the Chorus in 1948. After Ladies of the Chorus performed weakly at the box office, she started appearing in supporting parts in bigger budget movies like The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve. In early 1952, she admitted to posing for nude photos. In an interview, she said she did the photos because she was unable to pay her rent, the resulting publicity made the public curious about the struggling actress.

The rest of 1952 was a coming out party for Marilyn Monroe. Three of her movies, Monkey Business, Clash By Night and Don’t Bother To Knock were successful at the box office. All the parts were supporting parts but they were marketed as Marilyn Monroe films. By the time 1953 came around, she was a much in demand actress. During the next seven years she made classic films like Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How To Marry A Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch and her best film Some Like It Hot. In 1962 she started working on Something’s Got to Give, she however only showed up for work 12 out of 35 days and was dismissed from the movie. Unfortunately in August of that year she was found dead at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 36.

Her IMDb page shows 33 acting credits from 1947-1962. Ther page will rank 24 Marilyn Monroe movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

  1. My goodness. So many have found his interesting site, and bother to leave insightful, interesting comments. Marilyn is still such a huge megawhatt star that many people from all over the world still cares deeply about. She was a fine person and a hard working actress. I mean everyone thinks Bette Davis or Katherine Hepburn are such great actresses, but could eithet turn in a song and dance film like Monroe, and do dramatic roles as well? Marilyn has never been given her due as a versatile performer. Just last night on the nightly news, there she was again, celebrating her birthday. Whether it’s the anniversary of her birth, death, auction, or scandal, we are still not ready to let her go.

    1. Hey Nick….glad you found my Marilyn Monroe page. I have a movie website since 2011….and in all that time…Monroe is my 4th most popular page….barely holding off John Wayne. So I agree with you 100% that she is still a “huge megawatt star” all of these years later. She had one of the greatest screen presences ever….and you are right….she could do it all….sing, dance and act. A very talented lady…which is why people do not want her to go. Thanks for the great comment.

  2. Marilyn Monroe was a great movie star. Thinking of her on what was her birthday. Lately, I’ve seen Gentlemen Prefer Blondes – can’t remember the exact date, but it was within the last month. Lots of fun that film.

  3. I’m glad I found your site! Marilyn was a far greater ACTRESS than many people gave her credit for being, this in spite of a terrible, abusive childhood followed by abuse and disrespect as an adult person and actress. She deserves a special Oscar but neither Hollywood nor the Academy ever woke up long enough to smell the coffee.

    1. Hey Jeff Fenster. Glad you found my Marilyn Monroe page. This is about to get a facelift with new stats and trivia….so it might look different when you revisit it. I agree with you about her being a better actress than she was given credit for. Her personal life was just tragic…which makes her professional career all the more impressive. I further agree that the Academy should have done some Honorary Oscar….I mean….over 50 years after her death and she is still a major star. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

    1. I agree. She had that “it” quality. No, i’m not a freak or anything like that. But, i find myself thinking about her almost every day. Even for just a moment. Anytime i’m online i find a bit of time to just look up info on her. She was both mesmerizing and captivating. One of a kind.

      1. Hey Juan…she was indeed one of kid. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment….both are greatly appreciated.
