Morgan Freeman Movies

Want to know the best Morgan Freeman movies?  How about the worst Morgan Freeman movies?  Curious about Morgan Freeman’s box office grosses or which Morgan Freeman movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Morgan Freeman movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which ones got the worst? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Before doing this page, I would have told you the actor that I became first aware of as a kid ….. was John Wayne. Turns out the answer has to be Morgan Freeman. Freeman appeared on PBS’s The Electric Company from 1971 to 1977. I was in kindergarten in 1972, and The Electric Company was required viewing. I remember seeing Freeman in the trailer for 1980’s Brubaker, and telling my brother…”Hey its that guy from the Electric Company”….ok enough about me.

In 1987 Freeman played Fast Eddie, a very brutal pimp, in Smart Street. He received his first Oscar® and Golden Globe® nomination for that role, and his movie career has never looked back.  Since those early days, he has become one of the most respected actors working today.  His IMDb page shows over 130 acting credits since 1964. This page will rank Morgan Freeman movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.  This page was from a request by Sunshine.

  1. Hi

I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like Shawshank. And yet on its initial release it’s box office was quite low, considering the brilliant cast and script. But I think it will be the film that Morgan will be best remembered for.
I loved him in Million Dollar Baby and was delighted that he got the Oscar. The scene where he beats up the bully is so uplifting in an otherwise dark and grim movie. Driving Miss Daisy is another favourite. The scene at the end where he visits her in the home is very sad.
If I could compare him to any of the classic stars, I would say Spencer Tracey, because he comes across as the most natural actors ever and like Tracey, he makes acting look very easy. He also has one of the most instantly recognisable voices in Hollywood. Plus he played God in Bruce Almighty, and you can’t get any higher than that.
    Thanks for the hub.

    1. Hey Chris I think your comparison of Spencer Tracy and Morgan Freeman is perfect. Actually one of the movie pages running through my head is page that says …..Who is the new James Stewart?…..Tom Hanks…..Who is the new Jerry Lewis…..Adam Sandler…..well if I ever write that page I will give you credit for Who is the new Tracy?

Shawshank is a classic….and one that gets better with each passing year. He needs to make another Eastwood movie….the Oscar voters have loved their three movies. My favorite diamond in he rough Freeman movie is Lucky Number Slevin. His scene with Ben Kingsley is one of my favorites. I am glad that he has been so busy the last few years…..as he makes every movie he appears in better. Thanks for checking my last flipped page.

  2. So…. Where are the possibly interesting things about Moragn Freeman? Like…. His was the last page moved from CogersonMovieScore?

    1. Hey wife of me…..Freeman was one of the first pages ever written and back then we did not do the 10 possibly interesting facts on people. But the fact that he was the last CogersonMovieScore page to move to our new website will always be interesting to us.

  3. Amazing list of Morgan Freeman films! I never realized that he had starred in so many! Wow! I was lucky enough to meet him on a plane a few years ago, coming back from Tenerife, he had been playing golf! lol! We chatted, and then when the plane landed in London he gave me a big smile and a wave, made my day!

    1. Hey Nell…..thanks for checking out my Freeman page….he got a late start…but he has been very busy since the mid 1980s….and now he is as busy as ever….6 movies in 13 months.
Cool story about him and the airplane. That is a nice memory to have thanks for sharing
