Nicole Kidman Movies

Want to know the best Nicole Kidman movies?  How about the worst Nicole Kidman movies?  Curious about Nicole Kidman box office grosses or which Nicole Kidman movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Nicole Kidman movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Nicole Kidman (1967-) is an Oscar® winning Australian-American actress.  In many ways it is shocking to realize that she was first noticed in 1988’s Dead Calm and became a star in 1990’s Days of Thunder….which means her days as a movie star are closing in on 30 YEARS already!    Nicole Kidman’s IMDb page shows over 99 acting credits since 1983. This page will rank Nicole Kidman movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, her early Australian movies and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.  To do well in our overall rankings a movie has to do well at the box office, get good reviews by critics, be liked by audiences and get some award recognition.

Drivel part of the page:  When we first starting writing these pages on Hub Pages back in 2011….we admit…we pretty much ignored actresses.  Well this Nicole Kidman page is the 99th page that has featured an actress….which means the next actress will be our 100th actress page.  That is still less than actors but at least the tally is started to get respectable.

  1. Nicole made contrasting references about her superstar ex-husband Tom Cruise after her divorce from him-

1/In an interview that I saw she praised Tom for having one of the all-time “great careers”.

2/immediately after being granted the divorce she told waiting reports “Now I can go back to wearing high heels again!” At least for once Laddie was being left alone!

IMDB credits Nicole with a whopping 97 acting awards and 198 noms – amazing! I have already mentioned that Nicole has an accredited net worth of $130 million [and that her ex has a massive $670 million salted away].

Marginally too late of course for potential Master Love as she debuted in the year his 1983 book shook the film world, but she can be consoled with (1) your video and (2) her own Cogerson page. Unfortunately she was not included in Work Horse’s 25 Greatest Female Acting Legends 1950-2010, but she was one of those actresses whom he closely considered for inclusion.

Nevertheless we will not let him completely lay down the law to us over Nicole because for once in her there is a modern actress of whose movies I have seen a reasonable number- in fact 16 in all, see Part 2

  2. Seen: 11/44 or 25%
Favorite Top 10: Probably Batman Forever, but I have grown fonder of Moulin Rouge, very close.
Guilty Pleasure: Easy, Days of Thunder….give me all the Cole Trickle…now that I am thinking about it that movie had an awesome cast.

Pretty cool facts, I wonder if she played opposite Brad Pitt in Mr. and Mrs. Smith he would have stayed with Jennifer and we would have never had Brangelina.

    1. Hey Bryan….11 is not too bad of a tally…..I can not believe my tally is so high…as I have seen almost every Kidman movie ever made…..not sure how I managed to do that. You might remember that Jenny went crazy for Moulin Rouge when it first came out. Batman Forever is ok….but I respect your opinion. I think Days of Thunder is indeed a guilty pleasure….though I would think Far And Away would be close to that as well. As for Mr. and Mrs. Smith….you never know…..maybe Kidman would have fallen for Pitt…..dumped Cruise….and then Cruise and Aniston would have become Cruiston…..you just never know…lol.

  3. CORRECTION
My last post about Nicole Kidman refers.
Dead Calm was not Nicole’s debut film as she had a few minor roles and did TV work prior to that movie but as Bruce says Dead Calm was the first flick in which she was noticed. Apologies for any confusion.

    1. Hey Bob you are right…but it was Dead Calm that got people to notice her….hard to believe that was 27 years ago…..thanks for all the comments.

  4. 1 For a long time Nicole was in Cruise’s shadow but in 2001 she had a golden year with two stand-alone hits The Others and Moulin Rouge which whilst it was not a vertiginous domestic hit grossed about 240 million world wide in adjusted dollars. Since then her box office was at first patchy and over the last 4 years abysmal with Just Go with It in 2011 being her last Cogerson100 million crasher and in that hers was a supporting role to Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston

2 Overall she did not meet the criteria for the Cogerson 25 Greatest Actress list from 1950-2010 but I always considered her a better actress than many of those on the list and critics raved over her performance in her debut film Dead Calm and I thought she was excellent as the go-getter in To Die For. Accordingly I think she is worthy of this new page.

    1. Hey Bob…. Yep her first post Tom year was impressive indeed. That being said I was amazed how long she kept her $20 million per movie price tag so long. As after that awesome 2001 her movies really struggled at the box office. Ad for our current legends list…she was in the running….but she needs a massive comeback to bump one of the other ones off the list.

      1. GIMME MORE
1 I totally agree with you about the $20 million and whilst two wrongs don’t make a right at least Kidman did SOMETHING whereas many stars in the modern cinema are getting massive pay cheques without any evidence that he/she can ‘open’ a film.

2 Gimme More was a prime example because with the possible exception of Ridley Scott’s GI Jane any stand-alone movie she ever made flopped whereas in his heyday Mr Gimme More clearly could open movies – Armageddon, 6th Sense etc – but was never given too much credit for that fact whereas the likes of Brad Pitt [whom I like]has always been drooled over. I think that the large sums forked out to the Kidmans and the Moores show how much more money there could be sloshing around the systems these days in contrast to the apparent need for tight budgetary controls in the classic era. I’ve tried to develop this observation a bit more in my response to your WW figures for the Marx boys.

        CENSORSHIP
3 As a footnote to our recent discussions the following controversy here in the United Kingdom may be of passing interest to you. Strictly Come Dancing is a massively popular reality show TV competition over here in which the public and four studio judges vote on dance routines by celebrity/professional male/female couples. Those judges have now become high-earning household names and one of them is called Craig Revel Horwood.

4 You may be familiar with the also greatly popular TV drama series Game of Thrones
in which there has apparently been a rape scene that has stirred up a controversy. Craig Revel Horwood however said that he found the scene enjoyable entertainment and there is now a public clamour for his dismissal from Strictly Come Dancing. I am not arguing that sensible censorship shouldn’t occur especially if children are involved, but where do we draw the line at seeking to pillory or deprive of his/her livelihood somebody who expresses an OPINION about a piece of FICTION that we personally find distasteful? Who or what is next? Destroy all prints of some of the Duke’s war movies because we think they were too Gung Ho?

5 Revel Horwood had actually said at the time of his remarks that too many gratuitous sex and violence scenes became boring and he later apologised for ‘any offence’ that his remarks had caused but that’s not stopping his critics from continuing to demand his head as they are claiming that he supports the criminal activity of rape. I enjoyed Hitch’s Psycho but I would want to see roundly prosecuted someone who knifed another in a shower.

  5. Wow I did not even notice this page. Nice pick. She has been one of my favorites since I was a teenager. I remember seeing The Others when I was in high school, it freaked me out. She was awesome in that movie. I actually think that is her best performance. The Hours fine but not a movie I watch over and over. No idea she was that close to 50, but she is still a very beautiful woman. Her movies of late have not actually been blockbusters but she might have another hit. Very well done, brother.

    1. Hey Stein….thanks for checking out our latest page. Glad you liked The Others so much…and glad it did so well in our rankings. She and I were born in the same year….and yes 50 is right around the corner. Thanks for the nice words….brother.
