Requests

requests1

Thankfully we get lots of requests for new pages.  Well…the wife recently informed me that my way of collecting my requests was pretty weak.  She seems to think that writing down requests on whatever piece of paper or napkin or bill that is currently on my desk is not the way to do it.  So….since she is way smarter than me….I have decided to create a page just for requests.  Plus it should give a good idea of what pages are coming down the pike.

My logic in picking which page to do next….I lean heavily towards the subject that has the most requests.

  • Roger Corman – request by Dan
  • Peter Cushing – request made by SteveLensman, Dan & Brando 90
  • Disney Live Action 1967-1980 – request by Mimic
  • Foreign Movies requested by Laurent
  • Samuel Goldwyn – request by Dan
  • Sam Katzman – request by Dan
  • Fritz Lang – request by Lupino, Just Me
  • Bruce Lee – request by Brando 90
  • Harold Lloyd – request by Søren, Me
  • Henry Mancini – request by Flora
  • Patricia Medina – request by Dan
  • Mirisch Brothers – request by Dan
  • Edward Small – request by Dan
  • Rudolph Valentino – request by Laurent

Completed requests:

Many more to come…have to find all of my old napkins and transfer the requests to this page.

  1. Can you make some adjusted all-time top box-office country specific lists?
Like Uk, France, Japan, China, India, maybe other countries.
I know that ‘Skyfall’ was really big in Uk, ‘Intouchables’ was really big in France, animes, like ‘Spirited Away’, are really big in Japan, Bollywood is really big in India.
There are loads of other countries with movies that are only a hit in the home country, but I’m interested in big timers, and I think other people too.

    1. Hey jordy…..thanks for the suggestion. That is an interesting idea. Not sure at this time we have the capability of seperating the grosses…….but I will talk to my very smart VP of Computer Programming and see what she can do. I know some of the other websites breakdown the stats like that….so we should as well. I will broach this with WoC tonight. Once again….thanks for the suggestion.

  2. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

Is the box office data in the 1930s gross or rental data?

Is the ledger data all rental or do you have any grosses from that time?

    1. Hey Mike. Sorry it took so long to respond…things have been crazy crazy busy at school and home these days. All numbers are either estimated actual box office grosses or estimated adjusted box office grosses. Very very rarely do I list the rental numbers….fear of being sued is the main reason….based on all the papework I have signed when visiting some of the archive libaries that house those numbers. Good question.

  3. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

Here are 2 requests on actors I have come across alot that seem to be popular ,when doing my task.

    Ann Dvorak-95 credits
    Warren William-66 credits

    Thx

    Mike

  4. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

    FYI
I am currently doing the year 1932.

    29 Total Cities

    Grosses vs Ledgers.

Top 8 movie studios being reviewed.

    1. MGM, Eddie Mannix Ledger –
7 movies so far. Variety Grosses are running at 53% of overall ledger gross.

    2. Warner, William Schaffer Ledger
6 movies so far. Variety Grosses are running at 60% of overall ledger gross.

    3. RKO, Richard Jewel Ledger
6 movies so far. Variety Grosses are running at 60% of overall ledger gross.

    4. Paramount- none available

    5. Universal-none available

    6. United Artists-none available

    7. Fox Films- none available

    8. Columbia- none available

So far Variety looks like about 58% to 60% of actual grosses.

    1. Hey Mike….interesting information about the grosses and the ledgers. The more information we get the better our “educated guesses” will be. Once again, thanks for collecting this information. Good stuff as always.

      1. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

        Thx for replying
Sorry this is taking so long, but it takes 2 years almost to complete 1 year, because of December end of the year releases.
One interesting thing is the movie Grand Hotel was released at a $1.50 to $2.00 a ticket
thru its first run of the year & shown at the best theaters. Then released again at the normal ticket price. Also it was shown at the Aster theater in New York for 19 weeks at $2.00 a ticket, but no box office data was released. It seated over 1,012.
This was then replaced by Strange Interlude at $2.00 a ticket for 9 weeks so far and will be replaced by Rasputin. Again no box office data.
All 3 of those movies were highly controversial at there time.

  5. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

1.Dana Carvey has done at least 22 movies per Wikipedia.

2.Mike Myers has done at least 23 movies per Wikipedia.

3.Martin Short has done at least 39 movies per Wikipedia.

    Thx
