Robin Williams was one of my favorite actors.  I still am in disbelief about how his life came to an end.  On the day of his passing, I had just rented his movie, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn. In that movie Robin Williams’ character at the end of this movie said…..”My tombstone will say…”Henry Altman, 1951 dash 2014. I never knew till now it’s not the dates that matter….it’s the dash”. Then his final words in the movie…..”But he also felt at peace in the knowledge that somehow he would live on in the hearts of those who loved him”. Watching this movie on the day Robin Williams passed away was somewhat eerie …especially since his tombstone will now read “Robin Williams, 1951 dash 2014 and the last lines are how many people will remember Mr. Robin Williams. But enough depressing stuff let’s look at his awesome movie career.

His IMDb page shows 102 acting credits from 1977-2015. This page will rank 64 Robin Williams movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

  1. hook, mrs doubtfire, death to smoochy, dead poets society, aladdin. I HATED Happy feet. I love penguins but i hate disguising politics as a kids movie

    1. Hey Justin/PDX….Death to Smoochy seems to be a movie that is gaining cult status every year that passes….I remember when it first came out and people did not get it at all. I am right there with you about Happy Feet, it is a very strange and not fun movie….even my 5 and 3 year olds have no interest in the movie….although they love the penguins from Madgascar…..thanks for the comment.

  2. Hi Bruce; I was never a fan of Robin Williams as a comedian but I do like his dramatic work. I look at “Mork and Mindy” or his stand-up routine, and I wonder why anyone thinks this guy is funny. But He’s given some very impressive performances in “Insomnia”, “Good Will Hunting”, “Dead Poets Society”, “One Hour Photo” and some others. The only time he actually made me laugh was during his radio routine in “Good Morning Vietnam”. Other than that, I prefer him as a dramatic actor. (I feel the same way about Tom Hanks and Jamie Foxx.)

    1. Hey Rob…I have always liked him…but I agree with you about his stand up….most of his jokes fly right over my head…I think he bases lots of his humor from his life on the west coast….so being on the east coast…I do not get half of his jokes. But as a actor, I am a fan of his work…and I like all four the movies you mentioned….and even more in The Fisher King which you did not mention. Thanks for stopping by…it is always greatly appreciated.

  3. Bruce, I think I may be in a minority here but he is not one of my favourite actors and I am surprised at how successful his movies have been. My favourite of his movies is Fisher King, followed by Dead Poet’s Society. I do have to admit to liking his voice over work though (maybe it’s just his face I don’t like?). I love, love, love Aladdin and I’ve seen it a lot!

    1. Hey Jools99. You are not the first person that I have come across that is not a huge Robin Williams fan. He has been making movies for 32 years….he has 10 very successful years…and 22 years of pretty bad movies. It seems the older he gets the more voice work he seems to do. Thanks for checking out my latest page and thanks for the comment.

  4. Excellent page. I have enjoyed his career ever since I saw him on that episode of Happy Days. I am glad he has recovered from some of his demons like alcohol and drug problems. He was one of the last people to see John Belushi alive. On a more positive note his support of his long time buddy, Christopher Reeve, was always an inspirational story. Lots of awesome information that was a pleasure to read. Keep up the good work.

    1. Hey Ashley…it looks like you have been a Williams fan for a very long time. I remember the publicity he got and did not want for the fact that he was hanging out with Belushi right before Belushi died. Thanks for the compliment and the comment.

  5. Robin Williams was the man when I was a kid Jumanji, Flubber, Patch Adams, Jack, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets’ Society. I mean no one else has done what he has been able to do across all genres as much as him.

Looking at it now we have a lot in common- only child, ridiculously silly moms, enough hair to donate to science…except I could’ve never been Mork. He’s so awesome, I hope he at least does one more awesome movie before he decides to stop for good. Great hub Cogerson, you brought back awesome memories for me!

    1. Hey Alecia….I am glad my Robin Williams hub was able to bring back some fond memories. I am in the same boat, as I can remember all the times I went to the theater to see some of his greatest films. I appreciate the visit and the comment…they are greatly appreciated.
