I remember going to see What’s Up Doc as a teenager. At the time I wouldn’t have been aware that it was greatly influenced by Bringing Up Baby. He had a great run in the 70’s. Love Story was massive, although it has dated badly. But Paper Moon still shines. The chemistry between him and his daughter was fantastic. I recently watched Barry Lyndon, it’s quite long but it is very good and of an acquired taste.
The last film I seen him on screen was in a T.V. movie called The Man Upstairs along with Katherine Hepburn but his status as a superstar seemed to fade after the 70’s and he never quite got it back. Strange how some keep their star status while others only have ti for a short period.

Hey Chris….I did not see What’s Up Doc in theaters…but I have clear memories of it playing on network television in primetime….seems Streisand’s movies were huge ratings draws…and playe regularly. What’s Up Doc and For Pete’s Sake were in heavy rotation. Those were the days…as that was the only time you could see a movie.

His 1970s were indeed awesome. The director of What’s Up Doc, Peter Bogdanovich, loved that Grant classic…and after the success of his The Last Picture Show….did the remake…I like both movies….but give me Grant/Hepburn everytime. Good mini-review on Barry Lyndon….I liked it too….but will probably never watch one again. Probably the only Kubrick movie (excluding his first two) that I have only watched once.

Fame is a fickle beast….he was a star in the 1960s (tv one) and the 1970s (movie star)….but by the mid 1980s he was and still is a celebrity. Somebody people know….but rarely are the interested in going to see their new work. Good feedback.

Hey Dan. Thanks for checking out our Ryan O’Neal page and thanks for the trivia loaded lists. I agree with you about it being surprising that he was on the 2000 list. It looks like A Bridge Too Far helped him out on all of the lists. So you saw What’s Up Doc in Dublin? That is a good memory….the movie and the trip to Ireland. 6 of the 17 Oscar winning co-stars came from A Bridge Too Far…..I like that. Thanks for the information.
