  1. Helen Reddy has also died at 78. She starred in Pete’s Dragon and was in one of the Airport movies as a nun. I just saw her life story on demand (Australian movie with Evan Peters and Chris Parnell), I once bought a ticket to see her in concert at Radio City Music Hall. She cancelled so I used the money to see Heart in Central Park (a lot cheaper). Also have a few albums of her. Official story below.

(CNN)Helen Reddy, singer of the 70’s feminist anthem “I Am Woman,” died Tuesday, according to a statement on her Facebook fan page. She was 78.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman,” said a statement attributed to her children Traci and Jordan.
The Australian singer was also known for “Delta Dawn” and “Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady.”
A film biography of Reddy’s rise from single mother in New York City to hit artist — titled “I Am Woman” — premiered last month. The film stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey as Reddy and features a new song by Reddy’s granddaughter Lily Donat.

“I Am Woman” was released in 1971, but didn’t make it to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 until December of the next year. Then, in 1973 Reddy won her first GRAMMY for the song, according to the Recording Academy GRAMMY Awards website.
“I would like to thank God, because she makes everything possible,” Reddy said in her short acceptance speech. She would go on to be nominated for another GRAMMY in 1976.
“Our hearts are broken,” the statement from her children said. “But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”

      1. Actually a good trivia question there. Name 2 singers who had #1 records on Billboard in 1972 and died on the same day in 2020, both aged 78.

    1. Hey Dan. Wow two celebrities ass in a single day. I am saddened to hear that Pete’s mom has passed away. I did see Pete’s Dragon in theaters, so she’s always been the mom in my mind. Rest in peace Helen Reddy.

  2. Mac Davis has died. He starred in North Dallas Forty, Cheaper to Keep Her and The Sting II.

(CNN)Legendary country singer and songwriter Mac Davis has died at the age of 78.

Davis, who first found fame writing hits “A Little Less Conversation” and “In The Ghetto” for Elvis Presley, died following heart surgery, his manager, Jim Morey, said in a statement on Tuesday.
“He was surrounded by the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Lise, and his sons Scott, Noah and Cody,” Morey wrote on Facebook.
Paying tribute to Davis, his manager described him as “a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
be made he often told me ‘You decide.. I’m going to the golf course!'”
Morey ended his statement with lyrics from Davis’ song “I Believe In Music.”
News of Davis’ death comes days after his family said he had become “critically ill” after undergoing heart surgery in Nashville.
Musician Richard Marx led the online tributes to Davis, tweeting: “This is such a drag. RIP to the incredible #MacDavis. Thank you for your incredible songs and your kindness to me. It was an honor to hear you tell me stories.”
Davis — born Morris Mac Davis — made his debut as a country music artist with his 1970 album “Song Painter.”
His breakthrough album “Baby, Don’t Get Hooked On Me” was released two years later.

Davis, whose hits include “Stop and Smell the Roses” and “One Hell of a Woman,” received worldwide recognition for his contribution to music and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998.
He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000 and the national Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.
In 2013, he topped Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart as co-writer on Avicii’s “Addicted to You.”
Along with his musical accomplishments, Davis enjoyed modest success as a television personality and actor. He hosted his own variety series “The Mac Davis Show” on NBC from 1974 to 1976 and also starred in TV movies “Beer For My Horses” and “Where The Fast Lane Ends.”

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for sharing this sad news. Debbie and I just watched North Dallas 40 about a month ago. Rest in peace Mac Davis.

  3. Michael Lonsdale, # 215 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon list has passed away. Per the Wrap.

Michael Lonsdale, the actor who played an iconic villain in 1979’s James Bond movie “Moonraker” and starred in 1973’s “The Day of the Jackal,” has died. The British-French actor was 89 at the time of his passing.

“I must unfortunately confirm the passing of Michael Lonsdale, our dear talent for so many years,” Lonsdale’s agent, Olivier Loiseau, said in a statement to TheWrap Monday.

In “Moonraker,” which starred Roger Moore as 007, Lonsdale had the role of bad guy Hugo Drax, an industrialist with plans to poison all of humanity and then repopulate Earth from his space station.

For “Day of the Jackal,” the British-French political thriller directed by Fred Zinnemann, Lonsdale played Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel, starring opposite Edward Fox as “the Jackal.” Lonsdale’s performance in the film earned him a supporting actor BAFTA nomination.

Though “Moonraker” and “The Day of the Jackal” are the parts American audiences probably best remember Lonsdale for, they were far from his only roles. Lonsdale had a career that spanned six decades, with more than 200 film, TV and radio credits to his name at the time of his death, including Xavier Beauvois’ “Of Gods and Men,” for which he France’s Cesar award. He also had parts in “Is Paris Burning?” (1964), “Out 1” (1971) and “Murmur of the Heart” (1971), among many other films.

    1. Hey Dan…..thanks for the heads up on the passing of Michael Lonsdale….I pretty much only remember him from Moonraker….he always looked like Wolfman Jack to me. Good information….goodness gracious….over 200 movies. Rest in Peace. Mr. Lonsdale.

  4. From MSN

Michael Chapman, a two-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer for Raging Bull and The Fugitive whose dozens of credits also include fellow Best Picture nominees The Godfather, Taxi Driver and Jaws, has died. He was 84. His wife Amy Holden Jones said on social media that he died Sunday but offered no other details.

A 2004 recipient of the American Society of Cinematographers’ Lifetime Achievement Award, Chapman worked on such memorable movie moments as the bone-crunching boxing action in Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull (1980), blood-curdling shark attacks in Steven Spielberg’s breakout smash Jaws (1975), the heart-stopping train crash in The Fugitive (1993), the soul-stirring final concert by the Band in Scorsese’s The Last Waltz and the playful pairing of Michael Jordan and Looney Tunes characters in Space Jam.

Born in New York City on November 21, 1935, Chapman had some 30 credits as director of photography, ranging from the 1974 Jack Nicholson pic The Last Detail to 2006’s Hoot. He served as a camera operator earlier in his career, working pics including The Godfather and Klute. His DP credits also include Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Wanderers, The Lost Boys, Scrooged, Kindergarten Cop, Six Days Seven Nights, Personal Best and the Steve Martin starrers Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid and The Man with Two Brains.

He also was the DP on Michael Jackson’s extended music video for “Bad,” the second of five straight No. 1 singles from the King of Pop’s 1987 album of the same name. It was the late singer’s follow-up album to the record-shattering Thriller.

Chapman also had small roles in more than a dozen films, most of which he also shot, and directed the 1983 Tom Cruise film All the Right Moves and Daryl Hannah starrer The Clan of the Cave Bear (1986). He also helmed the concert pic Peter Gabriel: Live in Athens 1987, which was filmed at the height of the ex-Genesis singer’s solo popularity but not released until 2013.

    1. Hey Dan. I was not aware of the name…but I certainly am aware of the movies. Interesting about his connection to Michael Jackson’s Bad. It sounds like he an interesting life. Thanks for the headsup on his passing. Rest in peace Mr. Chapman.

  5. Hello Flora,
So sorry to learn this news, Diana Rigg was so much in the Arvengers, everybody was in love for her in France, and everybody was talking about Emma Peel at school when I was young.
THE way John Steed say  »Oh Mrs Peel  »is very cool and sexy…
I loved her in EVIL under the sun, but I was very surprised to see her in Games of thrones
I did not recognise her….in the main time she was great in this part….
But for ever she will be « Mrs Peel » with that music of the generic.
    RIP
    Pierre

    1. Hey Pierre…..thanks for the feedback on the late great Diana Rigg. If things were not so busy I would have given her some UMR respect. Rest in Peace Diana Rigg.
