Need to know which Elvis Presley movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences…and which Elvis movie got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information.

Elvis Presley (1935-1977) the singer was the “King of Rock and Roll”.  The “King” has sold over 2.5 billion in worldwide records.  Following in the footsteps of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Presley went from singing to acting in movies.  Elvis Presley’s first number one song, Heartbreak Hotel, was released in January 1956.  By the end of 1957 he had appeared in three movies (Love Me Tender, Loving You, and Jailhouse Rock) and they were all box office hits.  After Presley finished filming King Creole he was drafted.  He would return to movies with G.I. Blues in 1960.  For the rest of the 1960s he averaged nearly three movies a year.

When looking at his IMDb page you find some pretty interesting Elvis Presley credits.  Presley has 31 acting credits.  His music has been featured in 397 movies and television shows.  And he appeared as himself in 23 projects…including many documentaries.  This page will rank 31 Elvis Presley movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings….I did include two of his most famous documentaries in the rankings.

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort by Elvis Presley movie titles…link takes you to that movie’s trailer
  • Sort by Elvis Presley’s co-stars of his movies.
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by actual domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by movie’s domestic yearly box office rank
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort Elvis Presley movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. 1 HI STEVE This one took me completely by surprise because Debra was a supporting actress who Love Me Tender aside never seemed to me to get a lot of public attention. However she was unique in two ways (1) she was the first screen leading lady of Elvis (2) as your posters demonstrate she was the ONLY woman just as Richard Egan was the only male EVER to get billed above Elvis in movies Love Me Tender being just the King’s debut flick, though Debra overall was in that select group of ladies who got top billing even less than Myrna Loy.

2 However most of Debra’s movies are familiar to me so I was happy enough to stroll down Nostalgia Lane with her and the scenery was impressive and the posters that most pleased me were Cleopatra’s Daughter, Omar Khayyam, Princess of the Nile and Anne of the Indies. Special mention should also be made of (1) Belles on their Toes as Deb was 3rd billed after the as usual 2nd billed Myrna Loy (2) Last Hunt as Debra may have scored another ‘first’ in being the only female that I can remember who resisted the on-screen advances of Robert Taylor.

3 As Love Me Tender is in Deb’s CV there was bound to be a still of Debra & Elvis and as the King was always very photogenic it takes pride of place for me. However hard on its heels were Deb with Chandler and Jimmy Stewart from Broken Arrow (1950) Debra and Vincent from Haunted Palace and the simply gorgeous coloured solo of Debra.

4 Your Top 5 are solid enough though I was surprised at Love Me Tender being down at 16th with a 64% rating However on this page WH gives it just 60.5% for critic/audience and ranks it a lowly 13th and anyway I accept that when one sees who and what were YET AGAIN your No 1 there was no way that even Elvis was going to be allowed the Top Spot. Great stuff deserving 9.3/10. Debra still lives and is in her eighties but one would take it from her ‘pious’ opening statement that she will not have watched too many Bruce Willis movies.

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for review, rating and comment, always appreciated.

Glad you liked the posters and stills.

Young Debra wasn’t a great actress by any means but she was very pretty and being photogenic was very important in old Hollywood, maybe not so much now. There were some risque photos of her dancing whilst wearing very little from Journey to the Lost City that I didn’t include in case someone complained and my video got shut down. I have to be careful with the youtube moderators.

On James Stewart and Broken Arrow (1950) – “I was so young that I was told, “Don’t ever tell him your age. Lie and say you’re 17.” Well, I had a birthday on the set, and when Jimmy saw the number of candles, he screamed, “Oh my God, I’m a dirty old man!” In a scene, if Jimmy thought Jeff (Chandler), who was a gentle, quiet man, or I could do better, he would blow it and they’d have to cut. And he’d whisper to us, “You can do this better…focus in”. He was just a beautiful human being. I want to cry, thinking about his recent passing. I loved that man, and I love that film. It was my first starring billing.”

On Elvis and Love Me Tender – “Originally, it had no songs. Elvis didn’t want to sing, but they wanted to cash in, so he did sing in the movie. I was in my very early twenties but I was emotionally more like a 16-year-old. Elvis and I just sort of came together like a couple of children really. He was a precious, humble, lovely person. Elvis had a lot of talent; there was a lot of depth they never used. He could have been a fine actor.”

    2. Hey Bob….good information on Debra Paget…you have expanded my knowledge of her 10 times the amount I had before. We don’t have a Paget page…but Love Me Tender is only 13th on our Elvis page….so I am thinking my rating closely matches Steve’s rating. Good review and good comment.

    1. Hey marius pop…..first of all…thanks for the visit and the comments on our Elvis page. I respect your opinion on Fun in Acapulco and Girl Happy…and I am sure if you go through all of the many comments on this page…you will find some people that agree with you. Still….there are no fools here…if anybody is a fool it would be me….because I am the one that came up with the rankings…as it is my system…..taking shots at the people that commented is not fair and not appreciated.

The way the table is set up….you can sort/rank the movies anyway you want….do not like my ranking system….I have no issues with that……looking at your two favorites….the best way to sort them would be Girl Happy by reviews…and then it moves up to 9th….and by box office for Fun In Apapulco as it move up to 10th. In the end….lists are made to be argued with….so I appreciate that you do not agree with my rankings. Once again…glad you found our Elvis page.
