1982 Movies

To make this list a movie had to be made in 1982.  Obviously many movies made in 1981 earned box office dollars in 1982.  On the other side many movies made in 1982 made money in 1983 and later.   This page will looks at over 140 movies made in 1982.  The movies are listed in two massive tables that lets you rank the movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.

Our UMR Top 50 of 1982

  • Sort 1982 Movies by the stars or in some cases the director of the movie.
  • Sort 1982 Movies by domestic adjusted box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort 1982 Movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each 1982 Movies received and how many Oscar® wins each 1982 Movies received.
  • Sort 1982 Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking Score (UMR).  Our UMR score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

    1. Hey Sidney…thanks for the suggestion….we are still having lots of issues adding in new movies…..but it is getting better. So glad our issues never took down the entire website.

  1. Hey Steve….having a hard time finding your Hurricane Caine and Storm Callum (it most be over 200 comments ago)….but I did look up Storm Callum….wow….you guys do not normally get our “fall storms” ….welcome to the club (lol)….the beginning of the end for all of us….that and a hurricane got to Singapore. The weather changes are somewhat scary.

As for Michael….he let his presence be felt here…..he royally screwed up our database, caused us to throw away a ton of food….and scared the crap out of our 9 year old….hell I admit it…listening to the wind, at 3 o’clock in the morning, sounding like it was going take our house to Kansas…did not exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy….lol.

  2. I’ve seen 52 of the 143 films on the chart.

I have 56 films from 1982 in my movie collection. My favorites are –

    Airplane II
    Beastmaster ,The
    Blade Runner
    Cat People
    Challenge ,The
    Conan the Barbarian
    Creepshow
    Dark Crystal ,The
    Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid
    ET The Extraterrestrial
    Firefox
    First Blood
    48hrs
    Gandhi
    My Favorite Year
    Poltergeist
    Rocky III
    Secret of Nimh ,The
Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan
    Sword and the Sorcerer ,The
    Thing ,The
    Tron
    Victor Victoria
    zz-China – Shaolin Temple ,The
    zz-Germany – Das Boot
    zz-Italy – Tenebrae

ET tops the UMR and box office charts and Blade Runner is no.1 on the critics chart. Both are sci-fi classics but Blade Runner is more my style. I also have a fondness for Tron and Star Trek II The Wrath of Khaaaaaaaaaaan!

The poster for Cat People (1982) featuring Nastassia Kinski has been my internet avatar for nearly 20 years now. A shame I can’t use it here too, on my messages. It’s still up at hubpages.

Another top page Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….a couple of nights ago….I was commenting back on your comment…when Hurricane Michael knocked out the power. It took about 12 hours to get power back…but the sudden power outage severed the connection between database and the website. WoC got it fixed……then tonight the power has been blinking and cutting off my computer….which once again has severed the connection. What a pain….but I realize if my main concern is internet problems….then I have nothing to complain about….especially with so many people dealing with bigger Hurricane issues. This is the long way to say…sorry it took so long to comment back.

52 of the 143 represents almost 37% of all the movies listed….not too bad. I am still shocked my tally count went down from 1981 to 1982. I have seen all of your favorites with the exception of two of the zz ones…I have seen Das Boot….actually I was in store today and could have gotten a deluxe DVD of that movie for about 2 bucks…for some reason I did not buy it….I did buy a Audie Murphy movie for 2 bucks….The Duel At Silver Creek.

Blade Runner is one of my all-time favorties….a Khan is probably my favorite Trek movie. My first ever date was taking a girl to E.T….I was so nervous….she was a redhead….a trend that would continue as my ex-wife was a redhead. Hmmmm there is a way to use that Kinski picture…I know Flora did it….let me see….if I can find the link…https://en.gravatar.com/

Well it looks like I will be able to get this comment published….if only the power can hold out for another 3 seconds….made it…..now under “edit mode”.

      1. Bruce, don’t worry if you can’t find an avatar, my comments usually get ignored anyway (oof), but if it would make you notice them more….

I commented recently about your Hurricane Michael and our Storm Callum.

Thanks for managing to reply to this comment, it is appreciated.

        1. Hey Steve….sorry if I have missed some of your comments…I had WoC run a report….and I am commenting back on 88% of all comments….10% of the comments I have missed were ones addressed to other people…Like Bob to Steve. That leaves 2% (actually 1.65%) unanswered by me. I chose to think I comment back on 98.35% of all comments. Not too bad, considering we have had thousands and thousands of comments….and that I am now working about 65 hours a week.

  3. Hello,
This is great because it Is youngness for me and i saw a lot of them from ET to Tootsie from 48 HRS to Victor Victoria
    With Mary Poppins who play a sort of Dietrich whit another voice;
Funny to see in the top of this year The return of Martin Guerre, a french film and Blade runner was one of my favorite film for that year, the Verdict was great and if i am looking about the best money makers for this year, i see Debra winger, she was vey beautiful and good, so what happened to her??
So for this page i am just listening a group i recently discover even if i know the titles, The Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Georges Harrison, Bob Dylan , Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn and Jim Keltner and of course in the mean time i drink a very good glass of Chardonnay very cold because it is warm in france now!!!
    Nostalgie here is coming!!!
    See you
    Pierre

    1. Pierre, I loved the travelling wilburys. winger took 7 years off due to burnout. last seen as a regular on the Netflix series the ranch, an okay comedy with ashton kutcher, danny masterson, and sam elliot .

      1. Hey bob cox…..thanks for the information on Debra Winger…..glad to know we both enjoyed The Traveling Wilburys. Rest in Peace to many of those rock legends. Good stuff.

      2. Hello Bob Cox
        Sorry not to answer faster but i have problem with my internet, and a lot of work in the mean time, so thank you very much for the informations on Debra Winger because i dont know that information and hélas she was at the beginning of a very great career in the movie;
I know the songs of the Travellind Wilburys but i always thought it was Georges Harrison only and in fact i never heard of Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn but with the net i can watch some video like Learning to fly by Tom Petty, very good music…
        Excellente soirée
        Pierre

    2. Hey Pierre….great to hear from you. I really enjoyed reading your comment. I agree with it 100%. These movies do the same thing for me. So many great movies and so many memories that go with those movis. The Verdict reminds me of my dad. I saw Blade Runner in theaters with my mother. Fast Times At Ridgemont High…was a big movie when I was in high school. Debra Winger had a good career….but like many actresses….as she got older….quality parts became harder to find. I loved the Traveling Wilburys…especially their first cd. Hope you enjoyed your very cold Chardonnay as much as I enjoyed seeing your comment.

  4. I have seen 19 movies from 1982. I will mention them all.

The HIGHEST rated film I have seen is Tootsie.

The highest rated film I have NOT seen is ET. I was 6 and my best friend was so exited to see it she had a life size ET doll. She got nightmares after seeing it, so Mom and Dad decided I was not going to see it. It was recently re-released, but I decided not to see it. It’s not really my type of film.

The LOWEST rated film I have seen is Trail of the Pink Panther.

    Top 10 Films I’ve Seen:
    Tootsie
    The Verdict
    An Officer and a Gentleman
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

    Favourite 1982 Movies:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
    Tootsie
    The Verdict
    Victor/Victoria
    Airplane II: The Sequel
    Deathtrap
    An Officer and a Gentleman

    1. You will notice I did not include Evil Under the Sun. It is an Agatha Christie film, but it is not one of the best.

      1. I agree with you about Evil Under The Sun….the cast compared to previous Christie movies was not as impressive….the lack of legends…made the dull movie even harder to watch. Good stuff.

    2. Hey Flora. Thanks for checking out our 1982 yearly review. Your tallies have indeed gone down as we get closer and closer to current years. 19 is still pretty good. I am at 59 and box cox is 39…..so I think that is a good total for you. I have seen most of your 19….and all of your favorites. Glad to see Deathtrap in your favorites list. I loved and still love Fast Times At Ridgemont High….I saw that one in theaters…and can tell you that the movie caught the eye of almost high school student….I still remember people talking about the movie in school. Wrath of Khan is my favorite Star Trek movie…..though The Voyage Home is the one I like to re-watch the most. Good feedback as always.
