  1. I think I have seen 14 Ricardo Montalbán movies, but I must admit that I never can remember which Esther Williams movies I have seen, since I often find them interchangeable. Favorites are Mystery Street, Sayonara and Madame X, where he was properly sinister. To a lesser extent, I like Let no Man write my Epitaph and The Money Trap, with a good performance by Rita Hayworth. Ricardo was never a favorite, but he was a good actor and, as Flora has pointed out, a good dancer, too. He had a long career, although in later years mostly in supporting parts…but does it matter when one of those supporting parts was Khan???
(By the way, never been a fan of Fantasy Island, and have only caught very few episodes in some re-runs).

  2. HI FLORA

Thanks very much for replying to my request for information about any Kelly/Astaire association. What you had to say not only interested me but also pleased me because I like them both and am therefore delighted they got on well together.

Unless one has first-hand information such as you had about Gene/Fred one can never be sure that even two big stars of the same genre and era have ever really had much to do with one and other

For example Fred and Judy Garland worked close to each other on a few occasions over the years [for example in Ziegfeld Follies that you mention] but apparently had seen each other only from a distance and when they came to do Easter Parade together Judy was reportedly very nervous about her first close-up introductory meeting with Fred.

Luckily their lack of previous acquaintance didn’t matter in the end as their chemistry in Easter Parade was such that it has now become one of the all-time great musical classics and as Bruce’s tables on the Astaire and Garland pages show it is in the top 10 financially most successful films that either Fred or Judy ever made.

Anyway great chatting with you and I hope all is well with you

    BOB
