I also watched Gleeson recently in the 2020 2-part miniseries The Comey Rule in which he played Donald Trump and Jeff Daniels was former FBI Director James Comey who clashed with The Donald. I have of course never personally met Trump and have no axe to grind with American politics one way or the other but Gleeson interpreted Donald as a negative and indeed almost creepy character, though faithfully brought out what forceful character he undoubtedly is.
Bruce has of course given us a very comprehensive [and if I recall correctly controversially so!] page on this site covering The Donald’s input as a film maker. Since first reading Bruce’s page I have picked up a piece of trivia which suggests that Donald held up production of Home Alone 2 on occasions by repeatedly materialising on set and taking endless selfies all over the place which some of the actors found offputing!
One does not know of course whether that is factual or negative fiction put about by someone who doesn’t like The Donald’s politics. We all know how excitable and hyperbolic Yanks can get over political figures of all parties!!!
Donald’s own Top 3 fave films reportedly include 1972’s The Godfather as Trump is said to be impressed by certain other men of power – Benito Mussolini for example – in real life and fiction and therefore took to Don Corleone.
Presidential contender and hopeful the Late Senator John McCain’s fave movie was, he said in an interview, another Brando film, 1952’s Viva Zapata; and President George W Bush publicly lamented Brando’s death in 2004 saying America would miss the Great Mumbler. So would it be a stretch to dub Marlon “The Presidents’ Actor”? – though Barack Obama is a big fan of especially Godfather 2.
I am afraid that I will largely have to sit this one out as, being mainly a television viewer these days, the only 2022 film that I have seen from last year has been the Art House release “The Banshees of Inisherin” in which Farrell and Gleeson reprised their 2008 “In Bruges” pairing.
If a person was going to see just one movie that was the kind of one to see as Bruce gives Banshees of Inisherin a high 87% rating – his taste is improving this Cogerson guy!
It had an added bonus for me in that Gleeson’s character listened to music a lot in the plot and one of the songs that was played was Irish tenor John McCormack’s “Christ Went up Into the Hills Alone” –
which for me has more of a Christmas connection than say Die Hard or Bad Santa and was I think sung by John in his only full-length feature film 1930’s Song of My Heart [he also had a singing cameo, and shared a scene with the great Hank Fonda, in 1937’s Wings of the Morning].
Hey Bob…..good thoughts on The Banshees of Inisherin. That is one I have not seen yet. I do want to see it though. Good trivia on John McCormack’s “Christ Went up Into the Hills Alone”. As for being a home viewer only…at least streaming services are exploding with content. Good feedback.
Hey Dan….thanks for checking out our 2022 video. One of the benefits of doing 180 school annoucements is that I have figured out how to crank out a video very quickly. I ended up with 614 movies watched….as I somehow managed to watch 6 movies yesterday, The 614th movie I watched was The Ghosts of the Ozarks. Happy New Year.
Hey Dan….I think your last movie of the year was better than my last movie of the year. I am up to 3 this year. Started the year off with Profile (a movie that takes place entirely on a computer screen), Body Heat (one of my all-time favorites that I had not seen in awhile) and Strange World (one of Disney’s biggest bombs of all-time).
I’m at 2 at the moment. First was Irwin & Fran, a documentary about Professor Irwin Corey, a forgotten comedian. It wasn’t that good and he wasn’t in much but he lived to 102 and ended up a squeegee man in the city. Then a 2009 epic called Babysitters Beware featuring Danny Trejo. One is from the All Arts channel (a public tv channel) and the other one was on Starz.
I liked the video. When looking at the worst, I would have included Thor 4, Jurassic Park 3 and Amsterdam in the list. When looking at the best, I know you have not seen it, but Avatar 2 is stunning to watch. Granted, the story is weak, but it was a thing of beauty. Northman is good addition to your Top 10. I want to see The Outfit, but I have not had the chance too. Bullet Train was fun but not a Top 10 movie of the year. As for your two horror movies, I thought Smile was ok, but The Black Phone was really good. Fun video.
Hey TaylorHoF2021…..glad you liked my end of the year video. As for the three movies you mentioned for the bad list…..I was disappointed in Thor 4, but I still liked it. Jurassic Park part 6 was pretty bad….it almost made my Top 10 movie list. I want to see Amsterdam…..but so many people dislike it, that I almost afraid to watch it. Three Bale movies in 2022….and none of them really hit it out of the park. I look forward to seeing Avatar2. As for Bullet Train….we can agree to disagree on that one. Good feedback as always…Happy New Year.

Good info on “The Trump”, Obama and the Brando effect on world leaders.

Cool video, wish I could do what you and Steve do.
You beat me in films seen. You had 612 and I have 575.
You saw 142 2022’s and I saw 288 2022’s.

My last film of the year seen Friday was Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Hard to believe another year went by….this ride is getting faster and faster.
