Cogerson Review on Blade Runner 2049

Why I watched this one? Blade Runner is one of my all-time favorite movies….so this was a must watch event for me.

What is this one about? A young blade runner’s (Ryan Gosling) discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who’s been missing for thirty years.

My thoughts on this one? This is a great sequel. I liked almost everything about the movie. Every performance was stellar…..though fans of Ford and Jared Leto should expect very limited screen time. Leto has only two scenes in the movie while Ford only has a handful of scenes. That leaves the heavy lifting to Gosling…..and he is up to the task.

Visually like the first one, this is a stunning movie. Love the music score which really enhances the movie. The story is an excellent extension to the first movie. In many ways it reminded me of Chinatown. I know comparing a science fiction movie to a 1940s private detective story might seem strange…but many times Gosling seem to be channeling a young Jack Nicholson. On the negative side….the almost 3 hour running time seemed about 30 minutes too long. In the end this was a great movie going experience.

    1. Hey Ritchie….glad you see the resemblance to Chinatown as well. Near the end when his face is all bandaged….he looked just like Nicholson after Jack got his nose cut. Thanks for checking out my review.
