    1. Hey Taylor. Glad to be able to help you out, that is what we’re here for……lol. Knowing the greatness of Roger Deakins is good thing to know.

  2. Nice of you to turn the UMR spotlight on a great English cinematographer Bruce. Watched him pick up the Oscar & BAFTA for Blade Runner 2049 a couple of years ago, well deserved.

I’ve seen 27 of the 58 films on the chart, more than I thought. Favorites include – Skyfall, Shawshank Redemption, Jesse James, Sicario, No Country For Old Men, Courage Under Fire, Blade Runner 2049, Rango, Fargo, True Grit and The Big Lebowski.

Lots of top rated movies here. I have yet to see 1917, another Oscar for Deakins?

Hang on, Rango was a cartoon wasn’t it? What’s going on? I’m calling shenanigans. 😉

A worthy subject Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for the visit, comment, and for sharing your knowledge on Roger. Seeing 27 of his movies is impressive. I have seen all of your favorites and enjoyed all of them. I agree, his work in BladeRunner 2049 was indeed worthy of the Oscar he won. I think his second Oscar is coming next month….as his work in 1917 is even more impressive. You know….even computer animated movies need some help with lighting too…and Rango needed that help too. Good stuff as always.

  3. I have seen 6 Roger Deakins movies.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is A Beautiful Mind.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is True Grit.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The Man Who Wasn’t There.

    Favourite Roger Deakins Movies:

    A Beautiful Mind
    Fargo
    The Man Who Wasn’t There
    The Shawshank Redemption

Other Roger Deakins Movie I Have Seen:

    Dead Man Walking
    O Brother Where Art Thou?

    1. Hey Flora…thanks for sharing your thoughts on the great Roger Deakins. I think a tally of 6 is pretty good, considering how you feel about current movies and the fact that his career got going well after you were born. I have seen all 6 of the ones you have seen. I saw 3 of your Top 4 in theaters….only missing The Shawshank Redemption on the big screen. Lots of people love O Brother Where Art Thou?…but I am with you….it is far from being a favorite for me. Good stuff as always.

  4. HI BRUCE:

Good to see you again branching out like Steve and profiling a “backroom boy” instead of drooling over somebody like Archie or Sir Maurice. Personally I have seen 13 of the movies that you have listed above; and have not seen but would like to see The Cohens’ A Serious Man. My personal faves among Roger’s films are Shawshank Redemption and A Beautiful Mind.

    ADDITIONAL TRIVIA:

1/As indicated above by Bruce, Deakins is often cited as one of the greatest and most influential cinematographers of all time. His consistent output led fellow cinematographer Robert Elswit to jokingly suggest that the American Society of Cinematographers should establish a special award for “films shot by Roger Deakins”.

2/Roger is credited with a massive 158 awards and 160 noms by IMDB – wow!

3/His current net worth is said to be $43 million.

4/There has been a Richard DeakIN [1943-2006] who made documentaries about environmental issues.

    “Voted Up!”

    1. Hey Bob. The marvel of 1917 got me motivated to do a page on Mr. Deakins. He is the second cinematographer to get an UMR page…following the late great Conrad Hall. I have seen 44 of his movies…including his Top 19. My first miss is The Secret Garden. Shawshank Redemption and A Beautiful Mind are both good to great movies….with Shawshank having the most re-watchable scenes. Thanks for the information on his awards, net worth and the other Richard D. Deakins lost the Oscar the first 13 times he was nominated…but I suspect….he will soon get his second Oscar for his 15th nomination. 1917 is going to win lots of awards for the people behind the camera. Good stuff as always.
