  1. I have seen Brendan in 5 movies: George of the Jungle; The first Mummy: The Mummy Returns; Gods and Monsters; and The Quiet American in which he was for my money unfortunately outshone by a brilliant Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated performance from Sir Maurice Micklewhite. Of the 5 I liked Quiet American and Gods and Monsters the best.

I last saw Brendan [relatively recently] in six 2016/2017 episodes of the heavy-sex 53-episode TV series The Affair. He had put on so much weight that I didn’t at first recognise him until I was guided by the cast list at the end of his own first episode. He [brilliantly] played a sadistic prison guard and his bulk did suit that part though and for my money it was his best acting that I have seen.

Around 2006 he apparently filmed a voice role in the animated movie Big Bug Man with himself in the title role. A 2nd billed[but highly-paid] Brando had the supporting role of Mrs Sour the owner of a candy store and Brando being Brando unusually filmed his voice role in costume: a drag ladies’ frock and woman’s hat.

It was hyped for a time as Marlon’s final film but despite occasional promises it has never surfaced on the screen. Maybe the Estate of Joel Hirschhorn has it imprisoned in a vault somewhere.

    1. Hey Bob…thanks for sharing your thoughts on Brendan Fraser…..I have seen all 5 of the ones you have seen. Obviously The Quiet American is the movie that I have the most interest in…as it was Caine’s 6th and most likely final Oscar nomination. Gods and Monsters is an interesting movie as well. As for The Affair…..I have not even heard of that one before this comment. His bulk has pretty much disabled his leading man days. One day Big Bug Man will appear as a DVD at a department store…..I doubt Joel had much to do with that not getting released. Not thinking the estate of Joel has much clout….in monetary or prestige to make much happen. Good thoughts as always. Sorry I did not get to all your older comments….but WoC has told me my 5 hours of commenting is over….as we have a rom-com to watch…..happy wife happy life….but I did get almost 70 comments completed.

  2. I saw Now and Then in Mexico City after seeing it in New York. My Spanish wasn’t good and it was shown in English so had to waste a night.

Brendan is # 359 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon list; these are the other actors on the list he appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan.
      1. I would like to ask you 10 questions for our UMR Hall of Fame interview series….can you e-mail me at cogersonmoviescore@gmail.com?
      2. As always….thanks for sharing this information.
      3. I wonder how many other people saw Now and Then in Mexico City and New York City…I am betting not many.
      4. Surprised Mr. Fraser is still so highly ranked on the Oracle list…as it seems his career has really slowed over the last 10 years.
      5. Looks like Kevin J. O’Connor is the most frequent Oracle co-star….a bunch had made 2 movies with him.
      6. 21 seems like a low number of Oscar winning co-stars….but his movies do not seem like ones Oscar winners would beg to be in….than again maybe Meryl Streep wanted to have a role in Encino Man…but was scared of being outacted by Pauley Shore…lol.
      Good stuff as always.

  3. I’ve seen 12 of the 37 films on the chart, less than I thought. Favorites are – The Mummy films, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Escape from Planet Earth and Bedazzled.

The Mummy films top the box office chart, he was good in them, an effective hero. But it looks like the glory days are over for Fraser unless he can come up with a surprise comeback, maybe on TV?

I have Crash on DVD but its not a favorite.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for the feedback on Brendan Fraser. Tally count…24 for me 12 for you. I have seen all of your favorites. The rock star deleted scene is pretty crazy… a link if you have not seen it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=s4_XgFx_BJE

I agree he made a good hero in the Mummy series….but by the end, they seemed way to willing to push him out of the picture. I also agree….the glory days of Fraser are over…maybe he has a career as a supporting actor coming. I also also agree on Crash….wow three agress in a row…if only this was with Bob…lol. Good stuff as always.

  4. Brendan Fraser is one of many actors and actresses that made my new book but did not have a page on the website. Well he does know. Just as I am about to finally finish my Joel project, I now find myself working on a Cogerson project too. 8 Joel subjects to go and about 25 Cogerson subjects to go.

As for Fraser….he finished ranked 352nd in the book…..I have seen 24 of his movies. Favorites would include Blast From The Past, The Quiet American, The Mummy and Bedazzled. Bedazzled has one of the greatest deleted scenes of all-time. In that movie he plays many different versions of himself….there is a rock star section of the movie that got completely cut from the movie….but it is available on YouTube and on the DVD. Worth checking out at least once.
