Burt Reynolds (1936-2018) was an Oscar®-nominated American actor, director and producer. According to Quigley Publishing, from 1978 to 1982 Burt Reynolds was the number one movie star working.  Reynolds’ 5 year run tied Bing Crosby (1944-1948) for the longest stay at the top spot when it comes to money making stars.  I am not sure how many young people realize just how popular Burt Reynolds was back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Pretty much everything he touched turned into box office gold back then.  This movie page comes from a request from my mother.

Burt Reynolds’ IMDb page shows 187 acting credits from 1958-2019. This page will rank Burt Reynolds movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.  His television roles, cameos, shorts, and straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

  1. YEH YEH YEH!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for Burt Reynolds…………………I have been waiting for this one for awhile now. THANKS SON. I have seen most of his movies and I really enjoyed The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing, Sharkey’s Machine and he was so good in Rough Cut – a smooth and sexy role. I believe that he is a very good actor. I will have to watch Sharkey’s Machine soon as I have it on a VCR Tape. THANKS AGAIN. ENJOYED IT!!! Keep it going……………..

    1. Hey BERN1960……Yep finally got around to one of your favorites. I remember you watching Sharkey’s Machine many times. You might be one of the last people holding on to their VHS tapes. Sharkey’s Machine is on DVD….actually it is on Blu-Ray too….for less than 10 bucks. I have not seen The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing in a long time…and I have not seen Rough Cut….I will have to keep my eye out for that one. Attaching a link for Sharkey’s Machine

      1. You could be right with me having a collection of VHS tapes all by myself but it could be surprising how many people are holding on to them. I still have the VHS machine to watch them too……..When I go to the book sales in Suffolk there are VHS tapes that you can purchase – I DO NOT BUY THEM…….I have enough of my own as you know………Thanks again for Burt Reynolds – very interesting.

        1. Sorry to burst your bubble BERN1960….but there are not many people holding onto their VHS tapes…..even thrift stores are starting to reject them….I know you have a Blu-Ray player….it is time to retire that VHS and join the rest of us. You are welcome for your Burt Reynolds page….it has done well so far.

  2. It was sad seeing photos of Burt Reynolds looking old and frail in the newspapers recently but he is nearly 80. Kirk Douglas is 20 years older! Plenty of facts here on Mr. Reynolds, Bruce, for a while he was the biggest movie star in the world, but moviegoers are fickle and were soon ignoring his films. Didn’t help that much of his 80’s output was pretty bad. I was a fan in the 70’s, loved the first Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper, Longest Yard and Deliverance. I’ve seen 28 of the 66 films you’ve listed. I expected Deliverance to be at the top of your moviescore, I think it’s the only film of his Oscar nominated for Best Picture? I bought Boogie Nights recently on blu-ray. I haven’t seen Navajo Joe, an Italian western, I have the soundtrack by Ennio Morricone.

    1. Hey Steve….after hearing about his frail looks I had to see for myself. He looks frail….but as you say he will 80 next year….he has 4 movies in different stages of pre-production….I hope I am that active at 80. So you are 28 Reynolds movies seen…..counting….23 I think…I have to see many of his mid 80s movies are a blur in my memory. I did go and see Cop and Half in theaters…what was I thinking? I will blame it on one of my kids. Seeing that Ennio Morricone did the music for Navajo Joe makes me want to see it. I think my moviescore is FINALLY starting to grow on you….this is a proud day my friend. Thanks as always for stopping by.

  3. Never was much of a Reynolds fan but man do I feel sorry for him. He looks like a skeleton and heard he his broke too. Lots of interesting stuff. I did not know Carl Weathers was in Semi-Pro.

    1. Hey Daniel Sorodova1. Thanks for stopping by….especially since you are not much of a Reynolds fan. When I write this pages….other than looking at marriages and kids….I stay away from my movie page subject’s personal life. If he is really broke….that is just super sad. I appreciate the information.

  4. Wonderful page. I have meet Burt a few times in my life and he was pleasant every single time I saw him. I found his appearance at Comic Con somewhat sad. He looked very frail. Such a huge difference since his glory days.

    1. Hey BavaMan….glad to know he was pleasant the times you saw him. Burt Reynolds was at Comic Con? I did not see that but I will check that out. I wonder if he is pushing a movie. Maybe he is going to join the Marvel Universe. That would be cool.

  5. I knew he was huge when I was younger but I did not know he ruled Hollywood for 5 straight years. Most of my Top Five Reynolds movies did very well in your columns. I loved the first Smokey and The Bandit. The End is forgotten comedy gem. I thought he was going to pick a Acdademy Award for that one. Delieverance scared the hell out of me as a kid. The only movie that I liked so much that was ignored was Mystery Alaska. Rated below Cop 1/2? Say it is not so.

    1. Hey Timlin33. Thanks for the visit. I also enjoyed Smokey 1 and Deliverance. I have not seen The End. He got Oscar consideration for that? Sorry Mystery Alaska did not rate very well. For what it is worth I liked that one too. Plus you get a young Russell Crowe in that one.

      1. Thank you for responding to my comment. I actually was trying to say I thought he was going to get a Oscar for Boogie Nights. The End is very funny but not a serious role at all for Burt. I thought Crowe and Burt made a nice screen team in Mystery Alaska.

        1. Hey Timlin…..that makes sense now. I know Burt got some Oscar attention for Starting Over….but I never heard anything about Burt, The End and Oscar glory. Sadly at this point in Burt’s career….I think the only Oscar he will get is an Honorary Oscar. I agree with you about Reynolds and Russell in Mystery Alaska.
