It has most regretfully been in fact 6 months since I personally have felt there was any point in communicating with other than Steve, Bob Cox,Flora and a few others on the site.
For example Steve has been one of the Cogerson site’s greatest ‘disciples’ in the decade that I have been with it; yet it has been 3 months since he got feedback, at least on this site, from The Work Horse on the marvellous videos that Steve keeps posting on his own site.
Yet in those 3 months Bruce has HAD TIME to churn out around 50 new pages [as I say often on maybe relatively obscure performers] and on the face of it WH seems to never in all that time have thought of devoting the occasional time-slot to saying something to his old Posters Mate about the latter’s work.
Given Steve’s long attention to, and even love of, this site courtesy alone would have dictated more attention to Steve’s own work from me if I had been one of the site’s moderators: courtesy where such is appropriate has always been my own TOP priority and I would always have been delighted to share my own admiration of Steve’s work with any viewers of mine.
Conversely viewers, thoughts it would seem may not any-longer be a high priority to WH and the site often seems to me in particular like a great ship on which the captain is nearly-always hiding from his passengers. Surely: that IS sad – indeed very!
“We used to have good times together
But now I feel them slip away
It makes me cry to see things die
So sad to watch good times go bad.”
Remember how we used to feel here?
It breaks my heart that you ARE apart
So sad to watch good times go bad”
[“So Sad” by the Everly Brothers recorded 1960]

Every now and again -he did it last week-when writing to me Steve will wonder whether The Work Horse even reads the posts from his viewers these days. It’s an open question because a couple of months ago I wrote to WH seeking some specific information and regretfully I did not get even an acknowledgement of the post; so it is reasonable to assume that these days either he is not reading posts from his followers or he is not interesting in responding to even a brief request for basic information. If so, so sad!
Neither alternative is of course very flattering to the viewer. Yet when I joined this site a decades ago it was a great forum for swapping views and it involved regular lively and robust exchanges among viewers with the moderators joining-in.
In short, back in its Halcyon Days the Cogerson site seemed alive with camaraderie; but now whilst, like Bruce’s own books, the site is still a great source of information despite Bing etc, for me at least only for Steve Lensman it would be an empty forum for serious discussion about movies. Again: that’s sad.
A few of the “OLD HANDS” from the early days like Dan whom I personally nickname The Oracle; the wonderfully informative and refreshingly sincere Flora; and of course Evergreen Steve still seem from my own observations to keep up the flow of participation.
However many “old timers” who used to be stalwart commenters seem to me to be sadly missing from posting these days or else write-in just occasionally. If I am correct in that can one blame them?
Hope all is well. Lots of stuff going on behind the scenes here at UMR. (1) School is taking so much time….some days I literally fall asleep without getting ready for bed….and then the day starts again. (2) A few weeks ago, Bing, Ask.com, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo stopped showing UMR in their search engines….granted……that was not a huge source of traffic…but still frustrating that UMR does not exist on those platforms. (3) Major issues with the “bridge” between our database and the website……we are going on the 5th day that the bridge has been closed…so no new material can be presented until those issues can be fixed…my website provider is of course of no help. (3A) Their suggestion is to use their professional web doctors for a pricey hourly rate with no guarantees that they can fix any issues. (4) Speaking of my website provider….they are once again increasing their yearly hosting costs. Ok….done venting…..it will get better in the future.

“A few weeks ago, Bing, Ask.com, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo stopped showing UMR in their search engines….granted……that was not a huge source of traffic…but still frustrating that UMR does not exist on those platforms.” [Cogerson 5 Feb this page at 5.07PM]
From my own viewpoint this site has possibly lost the often playful, normally informative but almost-always enjoyable “cut and thrust” that used to be so characteristic of it. Like Max Kellerman [Jack Weston] in 1987’s Dirty Dance I have for a while now sensed the fading of some past joy that will maybe never return.
I have little statistical overview to take me beyond my own general impressions; but for example at a quick count, in the last 8 days there have been 30 posts submitted to this site and just 6 of them [ie not even an average of 1 per day] have been from viewers other than Steve, Flora and me.
It may be therefore that followers of the site feel they are being discouraged from submitting opinions and observation despite the invitation on every page to “Leave a Reply”.
My own view is that maybe a bit less time could be devoted to new pages relating to individual stars [ a fair number of whom are arguably so relatively unimportant that maybe not too many people are interested in the subjects concerned – at least as a top prioority] and on the other hand a bit more attention on the part of the moderators to exchanging views with the site’s followers, would be useful.
Hello Mr. Cogerson. I have been coming to UltimateMovieRankings.com for many years. I really like this website even though this is the first time that I have commented. I am sorry that you are having these problems. I would happy to contribute to ease some of the financial burdens you are facing. Do you have a place where I can donate? I am very willing to help out since I have received so much entertainment for free from this website. Please let me know about the options.
great comment

‘The Covid Killer’ A New Gravitas Ventures Horror Crime Thriller Release From Writer/Director Jeff Knite, To Hit VOD This Tuesday, November 2.
“COVID is enough of a horror storyline as is, but filmmaker Jeff Knite has taken this foundation and used it as the basis of his terrifying new feature The Covid Killer.
