5. Danny Glover’s 4 Lethal Weapon movies grossed over 1 BILLION in adjusted domestic box office gross. The first three were Top 10 hits for the year….while Lethal Weapon 4 just barely missed the Top 10….when it finished 11th in 1998.

1 In the minds of most people the movies with which Danny will most likely be associated are the Lethal Weapon ones. Many filmgoers at times compare the Lethal Weapon franchise with that of the Die Hard series. Both groups of films are fast-paced action movies, each has a top box office star heading the cast and both franchises made piles of money.
2 However whilst John McClane of Die Hard is a ‘one man band’ the Lethal Weapon series reuses the buddy-buddy formula and very successfully. Danny Glover deserves credit along with Mel Gibson for making the formula work once again, Danny’s orthodox Roger Murtaugh contrasting and at the same time blending effectively with Gibson’s live-wire loose cannon Martin Riggs. Though Gibson and Willis are both talented entertaining stars I consider Mel to be the more versatile movie makerof the two.
3 My favourite Glover movies the Lethal Weapon franchise apart were Predator 2 and Switchback with Dennis Quaid. Neither fared well in Glover’s Cogerson critic/audience ratings column but both did far better with IMDB scores. Wikipedia and IMDB posters for Switchback show that Glover and Quaid shared the creative compromise billing that was used for the stars of for example Towering Inferno (McQueen/Newman) Always (Dreyfuss/Holly Hunter) Righteous Kill (Pacino DeNiro)and The Formula (George C Scott/Brando).
Hey Bob.
1. Thanks for the comment and visit to our Danny Glover page.
2. I agree 100%….he will be forever be associated with Lethal Weapon….which pops into one’s mind when you hear his name….and after you think about him for a minute…The Color Purple pops into people’s minds….but Lethal Weapon is almost a reflex.
3. I agree Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are like brothers….made of the same clothe
4. As much as I like Bruce….I do believe you are right than Mel has the edge.,
5. Switchback was ok….I liked Predator 2…..thanks for the billing information….as always interesting stuff.
Hope all is well….:)
Roger Murtaugh gets his movie page, and why not? Good actor, he and Mad Mel had great chemistry in the Lethal Weapon movies.
I’ve seen 23 of the 51 films listed, favorites include – the Lethal Weapon ‘quadrilogy’ (is that even a word?), Predator 2, Flight of the Intruder, Antz, Silverado and The Royal Tenenbaums.
The Color Purple tops the critics and UMR charts. I saw it once on video a long time ago, it’s just not my cup of tea.
Looking at the trivie – the Lethal Weapon tetralogy (now there’s a word) has grossed over a billion dollars adjusted domestic, that is impressive. Were the Die Hard’s as popular?
Another winner Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve….I agree he and Mel indeed had a great screen chemistry. I just barely have you beat as I am at 25 Danny Glover movies watched. I agree “qualrilogy” is a mouthful…though I do not even know if it is a word or not…..but it is now a UMR word…lol. Not to mention you roll out “tetralogy”….your dictionary made the move for sure.
I am right there with you about The Color Purple..a good movie…but also a one and done move for me too. Sadly I think Lethal Weapon has Die Hard beat at the box office….but Die Hard has the lasting cultural relevance.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Mr. Danny Glover.
