Timothy Hutton (1960-) is an Oscar®-winning American actor.  Hutton is the youngest recipient of the Academy Award® for Best Supporting Actor, which he won at age 20 for his role in 1980’s Ordinary People (1980).  Hutton has since appeared regularly in feature films and on television.  His IMDb page shows over 85 acting credits since 1965.  This page will rank Timothy Hutton movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos, uncredited roles, and movies that were not released in North American were not included in the rankings.  Many of his low budget, straight to home entertainment movies did not make the following tables.

  1. IMDB credits Tim with 9 acting awards and 17 noms and he has a reported current net worth of $12 million. In the pipeline for him are –

    (1) completed for the big screen The Long Home a drama starring and directed by James Franco [whom some see as the “new Brando”] and also featuring Ashton Kutcher who was definitely the “new Mr Gimme More” from 2005-2013 and whom some see as the definitive Gimme spouse. She was his “cougar” Here’s what IMDB has to say about The Long Home “A young contractor is hired to build a honky-tonk in Tennessee by the man who killed his father.”

    (2) completed – Main Justice a TV movie

    (3) at post-production stage a TV series called Y: The Last Man.

Tim has supporting roles in all 3 of these projects.

So he keeps busy; and for me it is helpful to the movie buff that WH profiles for us these possibly once-aspiring major stars who never quite got there as it enables us to update ourselves about the ultimate and current trajectory of their careers. I thus welcome this new page Bruce.

  2. Timothy is another actor who seemed to have a possible big future ahead of him but although he has kept steadily working top stardom never happened. On top of his film career Wikipedia highlights

    (1) 3 productions he directed including 7 episodes of the Nero Wolfe television series [2001-2002]. Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe was played by Sydney Greenstreet in a then-influential radio series that ran from 1950-51

    (2) 15 TV series that Timothy has featured in including 20 episodes of Nero Wolfe as Archie Goodwin who is Wolfe’s sidekick and narrator

    (3) 17 TV movies.

    I have seen Timothy in 5 movies: Q and A [my own fave] The Temp; French Kiss;
The General’s Daughter; and Ghost Writer. In recent times all of his movie roles have been supporting ones with him usually far down the cast lists – his last leading man role being I think in 2009’s Serious Moonlight.

  3. I’ve seen just 6 of the 46 films on the chart.

They are – The Ghost Writer, The Dark Half, The General’s Daughter, The Good Shepherd, French Kiss and All the Money in the World.

None of them are really favorites but I have seen The Dark Half and The General’s Daughter a few times over the years.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out our Timothy Hutton page….you are catching up. My goal for July…was to create 50 pages….so far 42 our out there. I have three Joel subjects researched…Richard Chamberlain, Raquel Welch (also a Mike request) and Leo G. Carroll. Also I am not up to 50 John Mills movies researched…..so I think I will reach my goal of 50. So for putting so much pressure on you.

Ok…back to Timothy Hutton….I have seen 25 of his movies…..and all of the ones you have seen. Ones worth seeing that you have missed…Taps (George C. Scott with the youngsters Sean Penn, Giancarlo Esposito, Tom Cruise and Hutton), Secret Window (surprised you have not seen that Stephen King movie) and A Time Of Destiny (low rated here….but I liked it). Good stuff as always.

  4. Timothy Hutton who I don’t see much of anymore is # 545 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 100 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. These are the actors on the 2020 list he appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan….as always thanks for sharing this information. Lots of great information. I think he has been spending more time on television versus making movies. Then again, he recently was in the news for all the wrong reasons.

#545 is a pretty solid Oracle ranking. Most frequent Oracle honors belong to….Melissa Leo…with 4 movies. Lots of multiple Oracle co-stars. 19 Oscar winning co-stars is way below average for some body making movies for so many years. Good stuff as always.
