  1. I saw 11. I am ashamed of how few of her movies I have seen. I love her acting and every movie of hers I have seen is better because she is in it. I have not seen yet the badlands, 3 women, the straight story which are her top 3 average rated movies on letterboxd. lots of nines. coal miners daughter is a ten and a favourite. several hidden gems: get low, the river, ‘night mother, the long walk home. all 4 dark but solid 8s and excellent acting worth seeing once. a special thanks to Flora for her favorites. Dan, great info and lists. Steve, I appreciate your insights and videos , as always.

    1. Hey bob cox…..well your tally of 11…would put you in 2nd place in our tally contest….me 18, you 11, Steve 8 and Flora 4. Badlands is worth tracking down. I have not seen either 3 Women or The Straight Story. My two hidden gems would be Raggedy Man and Hard Promises. I might be one of the few people to like Hard Promises. William L. Peterson of CSI fame is the lead in that movie…and I always appreciated his role in that one….and Spacek is very lovely in the movie as well. Get Low and The River are good movies to watch…The Long Walk Home is like The Help’s mom…lol. Good stuff as always.

  2. Hi

I first became aware of Sissy in the early 80’s. I went to see The Coal Miner’s Daughter and a couple of weeks later I went to a late showing of Carrie. About a month later I seen Badlands on T.V. She had very much a girl next door quality, I think that was part of her appeal. Of course she had a small part in The Help but it seemed her career, movie wise has petered out.

    1. Hey Chris…..thanks for stopping by….it has been awhile. Wow….you picked the right three movies to start your Spacek viewing carer with…..all three are great movies….with great Spacke performances. Two of them (Carrie and Coal Miner) got her nominations…with her winning the Oscar for Coal Miner’s Daughter. Like so many other leading ladies…..her 40s and 50s saw her career really slow. She seems to be making a comeback….she is Robert Redford’s leading lady in the soon to be released….The Old Man and The Gun. Thanks for sharing your Spacek thoughts.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. I know she was related to Rip Torn….I had to google Amy Carter…as I was not sure who she was….and a google search did not really help…I will keep looking.
      2. Surprised Sissy Spacek was not on the Top 1000…..seems she has been pretty busy and busy for 5 decades.
      3. Current list…6 of the Top 12….pretty impressive…but no Michael Caine….that is probably one of her career disappointments…not having a chance to work with Sir Caine…lol.
      4. Most frequent co-stars…first list…Mary Steenburgen….second list…Jack Lemmon…..both Oscar winners.
      5. 25 is a solid total….I did not realize Four Christmases was so loaded with Oscar winners…..that was a quickly forgotten movie.
      6. Fun lists as always….thanks for sharing this information.

  4. I have seen 4 Sissy Spacek movies, the same number of films as on Steve’s video.

As everyone should know by now, Badlands is one of my favourite movies of all time. I see this Spacek/Sheen movie several times a year.

Coal Miner’s Daughter and Affliction are also favourites of mine.

The fourth film I have seen is JFK.

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Tally count…..wow…I am doing a Flora when it comes to this tally count….as my total of 18 tops the combined total of Steve and your 14…..this is a proud day…..lol.
      2. Badlands has the Top Spot when looking at the Spacek movies with the best Review percentage…..so think it is fair to say that many feel the same way as you do about that movie.
      3. Badlands is one of Martin Sheen’s better performances…..their crime couple made a very memorable screen team.
      4. I have seen all four of your favorites….used to watch Coal Miner’s Daughter all the time on HBO….it was in heavy rotation back in the early 1980s…..and that was how I watched most of my movies back the…..complete mercy of the HBO programming gods…..lol.
      5. I was glad James Coburn won an Oscar for Affliction…..but that movie is such a downer…it was a one and done movie for me…have no plans to revisit that one at all.
      6. What a cast for JFK…..have not seen that one in many a moon.
      Good feedback as always.

  5. A feeling of deja vu here… I thought I’d forever finished with these Sissy movie titles and here they are in front of me again. 😉

You’ve listed 8 more than my top 30 let’s see if I’ve seen more… I count 8 watched out of 38, that’s two more than I managed on my video chart. The extra two were – The Ring Two and Four Christmaseses.

My favorites from Sissy’s catalogue are- Carrie, JFK and The Man With Three Brains.

Badlands no.1 here, it didn’t even make the top 5 on my chart. It’s been ages since I last watched that movie. Martin Sheen doing his best ‘James Dean on a killing spree’ impersonation. Might be time to watch it again.

I see… when you said Coal Miner’s Daughter had a 99% rating here I thought you meant from the critics, it was your UMR score, still far too high. Critics score for that film is about the same as mine.

Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up! Thanks for the video share.

    1. Hey Steve…..it is the Sissy Spacey/Jessica Lange week at UMR and Top Ten Charts(TTC),….as we both did pages/videos on them. I need to finish a Lange comment I started on your You Tube channel.

I have seen 18 of the 38 movies….almost half of her movies. My favorites would include Hard Promises,The Help and Raggedy Man.

Coal Miner’s Daughter was very succcesful in all the categories used in the UMR formula…box office smash, loved by critics and audiences, picked up 7 Oscar nominations including Best Picture. Put that altogether and you have a 99 UMR score movie. Good feedback.
