Elvis Presley (1935-1977) the singer was the “King of Rock and Roll”.  The “King” has sold over 2.5 billion in worldwide records.  Following in the footsteps of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, Presley went from singing to acting in movies.  Elvis Presley’s first number one song, Heartbreak Hotel, was released in January 1956.  By the end of 1957 he had appeared in three movies (Love Me Tender, Loving You, and Jailhouse Rock) and they were all box office hits.  After Presley finished filming King Creole he was drafted.  He would return to movies with G.I. Blues in 1960.  For the rest of the 1960s he averaged nearly three movies a year.

When looking at his IMDb page you find some pretty interesting Elvis Presley credits.  Presley has 31 acting credits.  His music has been featured in 397 movies and television shows.  And he appeared as himself in 23 projects…including many documentaries.  This page will rank 31 Elvis Presley movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings….I did include two of his most famous documentaries in the rankings.

  1. I’ve seen all of Elvis’s films. All were seen on TV except Elvis – That’s the Way it is which I saw in a cinema in Ireland. Both Elvis on Tour and This is Elvis, I only saw this year for the first time, both aired on TCM.

The day after Elvis passed, I kept the front page of the Daily News. From then on if any celebrity passed and made the front page or presidential election winners or New York baseball teams winning championships I kept the front pages. Unfortunately when we painted our apartment 3 years ago, I tossed all this stuff since I wasn’t doing anything with it, like selling them.

    1. Hey Dan…thanks for the Elvis feedback on the 44th anniversary of his passing….amazingly he lived 42 years and has been gone 44 years. That is a shame that you threw those Daily News papers out….I bet Elvis fans would have paid a little for his newspaper. I still have the People magazine that came out after Cary Grant passed away. Elvis’ passing is when I think I started to understand the true meaning of death. My best friend’s mom was very upset when he passed….I could not understand why she was crying over “that fat guy”….which is all I new about him back then. Good memory share.

  2. I liked most of his movies King Creule was one his best! I also liked the Searcher biographies lots of quality singing, and the whole Elvis! I enjoy his movies too. I often wish I could have been there.Thank you for letting us being part of Elvis . Sandra Malone

    1. Hey Sandra M. Great comment on Elvis. His fan based has really surprised me. I still remember hearing of his passing….at the time I knew his name but did not really understand death (I was 8 or 9). The thing I most remember about that day was the fact that my best friend’s mother was actually crying about his passing. At the time it really confused me. As for King Creole….I am right there with you…..it is one of my favorite Elvis movies. I will have to check out that Searcher biography. Good stuff.

  3. Red West, yes that Red West, appeared in 17 films with the king. I bet you thought it was either Sister Dolores Hart or Shelley Fabares.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the information on Red West and his 17 movies with the Elvis. The power of being best friends with one of the gods of music. Good stuff.

  4. I have always considered Kissin’ Cousins to be one of his most underrated soundtracks…plus, if the production had been better ( not a Sam Katzman quickie ) it had the potential to be a really decent comedy!

    1. Hey Timothy F. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Kissin’ Cousins….I have not seen that one, but I will have to check that one out. Good comment.
