    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for these impressive trivia lists on Eve Arden. Yep….no mention of her television show…The Mothers-in-law. Danny Thomas is a name/celebrity that I knew growing up, yet seems to have been lost as time has passed. I would guess with the massive amount of movies she made in the 1930s and 1940s….that Eve would have been on the Oracle list in the 1950s. Looking at the first list…no three peaters….but always good to see Kurt Russell pop up on a list. Looking at the second list….20 Oscar winning co-stars…slightly less than average….but some legends on the list. Good stuff as always.

      1. I made a mistake, Desi Arnaz produced The Mothers in Law, not Danny Thomas, and he guest starred about 4 times the first season

        1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the clarification. I could say the same thing about Desi as I did about Danny. Big names when I was younger, that do not get mentioned anymore today.

  2. I have seen 23 Eve Arden movies, including 9 of the top 10, and 13 of the top 15.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Anatomy of a Murder.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is The Voice of the Turtle.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is No, No, Nanette.

    1. Hey Flora…thanks for sharing your movie thoughts on Eve Arden….she was another of the subjects in Joel’s book. Tally count. 23 for you, 11 for me and 7 for bob cox and Steve. I was actually really surprised when my tally reached double figures. I have seen 6 of your favorites….with Mildred Pierce and Grease being in my Top 3 Arden movies. You and bob cox think pretty highly about Cary Grant’s Night and Day….though I am a huge fan on Grant, that one does nothing for me….so we will have to agree to disagree. Of the ones you have seen that I have not….Comrade X is the one I want to see the most. Good stuff as always.

  3. I knew Eve Arden best from Grease, I can’t remember her in anything else (try Steve try)

Okay I’ve seen 7 of the 60 films on the chart, more than I thought. Favorites are – Grease, At the Circus and The Kid from Brooklyn. Others I have seen are – Cover Girl, Ziegfeld Girl, Dancing Lady and Anatomy of a Murder.

Let’s see… Stage Door is her highest rated and Night & Day her most successful pre-Grease movie. They might be worth checking out when they pop up on TV again.

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..I like you best remember her from Grease. I thought my tally count was going to be 2….Grease and Mildred Pierce. I was wrong…as I reached double figures. Tally count: Flora 23, me 11 and you and bob cox sitting at 7. I would have guessed you would have mentioned At The Circus in your favorites list…the power of the Marx! As for Night and Day….Flora and bob cox…really enjoyed it….I did not. Cole Porter on the movie which is based on his life….”it should be good….especially since none of it is true.”. Thanks for the attached link….I almost used a picture of her in At The Circus. Good stuff as always.

  4. 1/Eve was a multi-medium personality and on top of her big screen career comprehensively covered by Bruce above, she performed on (1) radio – see also 4 below (2) television – in 37 productions between 1951 and 1987 (3) stage. Wikipedia lists 17 of her appearances between 1933 and 1980 and they include classics such as Auntie Mame, Hello Dolly and Ziegfeld Follies of both 1934 and 1936.

2/I remember her most from five cinematic movies: Anatomy of a Murder, The Dark at the top of The Stairs, Mildred Pierce, Grease and Our Miss Brooks [1956] which is of course based on her hit TV series of that name that ran for 130 episodes from 1952-1956

3/As the Master indicates, in the comments section here, is probably the case with many people the movie Our Miss Brooks is the one that I think of the very most when her name is mentioned, though I have never seen the TV show.

4/Our Miss Brooks starring Eve ran on radio too from 1948-57. In those radio productions from 1948 until 1953 one of Eve’s main leading men was Jeff Chandler, until as a large screen fifties matinee idol he became too ‘big’ for radio. Jeff [sometimes going under his birth name of Ira Grossel] played Philip Boynton a Madison High biology teacher, the shy and often clueless object of Miss Brooks’ affections.

5/Celebrity Net Worth quotes Eve’s net worth in today’s dollars as $11 million.

    1. Hey Bob. As always…thanks for adding value to the page with your detailed comment that helps fill in the blanks of Eve Arden the person. Good information on her show Our Miss Brooks….a show that was huge in the 1950s…but I admit…I had never heard of it before writing this page. I did read about her successful radio career. She got two Hollywood stars….one for radio and the other for television. And now she has an UMR page to celebrate her movie career. $11 million in net worth…..pretty good for a high school principal (Grease reference). Good stuff as always.

      1. HI BRUCE

        Thanks for the feedback.

Responding to your Eve Arden page enabled me to get a plug in for my 1950s hero Jeff Chandler. He DOES have his own Cogerson page admittedly but doesn’t always get the credit in Cogerson co-star columns elsewhere that he deserves!!!

“Has no female fellow teacher ever gotten a crush on you in the way that Miss Brooks had on Chandler’s character on the radio, and on television and in the movie when he was played by Robert Rockwell?”

        Anyway keep safe.

        1. Hey Bob….I have fixed some of your Jeff Chandler co-star issues….maybe not all of them….but some of them. Happy to say no crushes going my way at school. Thanks for the return comment on our Eve Arden page.

  5. “Eve Arden is one of the screen’s great comediennes, like Lucille Ball. Most people remember her today as “Our Miss Brooks”, but she has also made dozens of films, and some of them are classics. ….she had her finest performance as Joan Crawford’s friend in Mildred Pierce.”
