Gérard Depardieu (1948-) is an Oscar®-nominated French actor.   Depardieu acting career has already spanned seven different decades.   During that time span he has been one of the busiest actors working.  His IMDb page shows over 240 acting credits since 1967.   This page will rank Gérard Depardieu movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos, uncredited roles, and movies that were not released in North American were not included in the rankings.

  1. i watched 6 including 4 of top 6. no tens, no favorites, 9 life of pi. no hidden gems. added 1 to my watchlist in my efforts to overcome my dislike of subtitles.

    1. Hey bob cox…..thanks for sharing your thoughts on Gerard D. and his movies. Tally count: Cogerson 9, Steve 7, you 6 and Flora 1. Your dislike of subtitles will be severely challenged when it comes to his movies. Nowadays his movies are filmed in Russian. Good stuff as always.

  2. The 109 films listed above comprise the most extensive filmography that I can recall seeing on Cogerson.

And Gerard’s not done yet because he has 9 movies in the pipeline: one is completed; 5 are at post-production stage; and 3 are at pre-production stage. Eight of them are French movies [some made in association other European continental countries] the 9th is Swiss; and in one of them he is scheduled to play Georges Simenon’s famous French detective commissaire Jules Maigret.

Throughout the 1990s I holiday annually in France and stayed near the town of Chateauroux which I frequented often; and the locals were proud of the fact that Gerard was born there.

According to Celebrity Net Worth site Gerard has a net worth of 200 million in US dollars; and IMDB credits him with 25 acting awards and 37 nominations.

    1. Hey Bob….my database said it was 113…when I originally posted the page only 109 movies found their way to the table. It actually took a couple of days trying to figure which movies were missing and why they were missing….but days later and it is finally correct.

I agree…Gerard Depardieu is far from done…..he has made so many movies…I felt I was researching a classic actor who made so many movies in the 1930s….and not a modern day star.
Good information about Gerard Depardieu and his hometown of Chateauroux. They have a lot to be proud of.

As always….thanks for sharing the additional information on his net worth and his acting accolades. Good stuff.

      1. WOW! 113 is some number. The other actors whom I can immediately recall getting into or on the perimeter of the “100 Club” on Cogerson are The Duke/The Thin Woman/Sir Maurice.

If ALL of Duke’s early B westerns were traced down would he not exceed the 113 of Gerard? I gather that Duke started off his career as a SINGING cowboy like Roy Rogers and Gene Autry.

Back in the silent era the stars made droves of films with Lon Chaney for example releasing a reported 157. However in those days the movies were usually exceptionally short -and indeed many of them were officially classed as “shorts” – so output then can not be realistically compared with that in later decades.

Some stars like Day Lewis have of course been highly selective and thus sporadic in their output. Also: “It doesn’t work if you put him in just an ORDINARY film and his movies have stopped being an EVENT ” Variety writing about Brando when he was going through his 1960s doldrums.

  3. For all that Gerard Depardieu has the most films of any UMR subject, I still have seen only one of his movies:

    The Last Metro

I notice that it is ranked at number 2, so if I have only seen one I have made a great choice.

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for checking out our massive Gerard Depardieu. I agree you…if you were only going to see one Gerard Depardieu movie….then you did very well in that one being The Last Metro. I have seen 9 of his movies. So many movies, and yet I can’t reach double digits…and I thought I was a movie fan. Good stuff as always.

FYI His 113 movies tops the previous record of 112 movies by one performer….the one with 112 movies? Mr. Samuel L. Jackson.

  4. Gerard Depardieu is # 22 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 list. These are the other actors on the list he has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan.
      1. As always….thank you.
      2. Since this page literally took days to research…I am not surprised that Gerard Depardieu has a spot in the Top 25. Of the 113 movies listed here….that is probably only about half of the ones he has actually made.
      3. I only included the ones that opened in the United States….even if it was for a film festival in Chesapeake, Virginia…lol.
      4. When identifying his most frequent Oracle co-stars we have a tie with 7 movies…Michel Piccoli and Catherine Deneuve.
      5. I am so looking forward to doing a page on Catherine Deneuve…as she has been about as busy as Gerard Depardieu.
      6. 24 Oscar winning co-stars is more than I would have guesses…..his American movies are few and far apart.
      7. Good information on his 11 movies with Michel Pilorge and Michel Galabru.
      Good stuff as always.
