  1. First of all, I love Glenn Close and will always check out a film whenever she is involved.

Lately, however, I’m beginning to wonder why oh why she has been in a couple recent films that were either stupid or horrible. Can’t remember the name of one but it was a pilot where Glenn portrays a loving grandmother who turns into a zombie. Horrible! Next is the latest, “Father Figures” which is showing locally. I’ve watched the trailers and read reviews and found it utterly stupid and far below dear Glenn’s talent (which is wasted).

So why is she doing this? Are there simply not enough genuinely worthwhile roles out there for this multi-talented and intelligent woman?

Just putting the question out there for opinions.

    1. Hey Cari. Thanks for checking out our Glenn Close page. The sad reality, the older an actress gets the harder it is to find good roles. Father Figures looks horrible…and is taking at the box office. The zombie might be The Girl With All The Gifts….as I know Glenn gets eaten by zombies in that one. Probably the only time a 6 time Oscar winner has met that grisly fate. I actually just watched a very good movie that featured Close…..What Happened To Monday….it is violent but a great story with some stellar performances. Good to talk Glenn Close.

  2. Hi

Thank you for doing my request. As I’ve said before in your actress page, I think Glenn Close is incredible. I’ve always preferred her over Meryl Streep. Although she’ll always be remembered as the bunny boiler in Fatal Attraction, I think her greatest performance is Dangerous Liaisons.
SPOILER ALERT! The scene at the end where she’s booed and jeered out of the theatre, and she trips walking away, is fantastic. Then you see her looking into the mirror realizing that her reputation is finished.
As I said before, she had been appearing in London on the West End in Sunset Boulevard. The talk and hope is that she’ll get the role of Norma in the film version. She might finally get her Oscar. But I think that Streep will be in the running for such an important role.
One film that is really fascinating is Albert Knobs, where she plays a woman pretending to be a man in order to get a job as a butler. It’s set in Ireland in the beginning of the 19th century. It wouldn’t be to everybody’s taste. But it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in recent years.
    Thanks again, much appreciated.

    1. Hey Chris….glad you found your requested Glenn Close page….it was a fun one to research especially when I realized she was in Hook…..that was like finding a diamond in the rough…I am still shocked that in 25 years I never noticed…or heard she was in the movie. A World According To Garp reunion….and I never ever noticed.

I agree with you about her role in Dangerous Liaisons…..I always liked how Frears started the movie her putting on the makeup and ended it with her taking off the makeup….it really said a lot about everything her character went through in the movie.

I have read that she has been getting great reviews for Sunset Blvd…..as many remakes as Hollywood makes these days….seems they should dust off one of the all-time greats….that might be the ticket for her to finally get an Oscar.

Albert Knobs was good….but boy was in depressing….though you are right she is outstanding in the role. Thanks for sharing your Glenn Close thoughts and knowledge.

  3. 6 Academy Award nominations is impressive too bad she has never won. Though she could have won for Garp or Dangerous L. I like your website, especially how you have all a movie’s stats on one line.

    1. Thank you Sampson. Agree with you about Garp if she had made the movie later versus being her first I think she would have won. Glad you like our website…land our single line of data that shows a snapshot of how a movie performed. Hope you visit us often.

  4. I was surprised to see Greystoke on your list of her credits, although technically it’s correct. The producers hated Andie MacDowell’s voice, and felt it distracted from the film, so Glenn Close re-dubbed all of her dialogue.

    In case anyone didn’t know.

    1. Hey Larry…..originally it did not make the table but when I saw how many voice roles made the table I went back and included it. It is probably the most famous dubbing since Audrey Hepburn got her singing in My Fair Lady. Hook made it because I was so stunned I never noticed her in the movie before…..I have seen that movie many times. A Garp reunion I never knew happened.
