  1. HI BRUCE

“Vote up” but Kevin never seems to have had vertiginous box office overall. You don’t do a “ready reckoner” any more but Mojo quotes his adjusted domestic average gross as a lowly $60 million. Kevin’s net worth too is said to be relatively low, around $35 million. Still I would live on it until something better comes along!

His peak years were possibly around the time of Fish Called Wanda, Dave and French Kiss. Wanda is not my type of comedy so I never went to see it but I liked those other two movies. Dave was a lovely film in my book and French Kiss was particularly nostalgic for me as W o Bob and I have holidayed regularly in France over the years.

I had actually forgotten all about Kline until Las Vegas appeared and I enjoyed the sparring in that one among Mike Douglas, Kevin, DeNiro and my Morg. As you point 3 of them were screen US Presidents, DeNiro being the odd man out. However Al Capone has probably been mentioned more often down the years, certainly in movies, than most of your even real-life Commanders in Chief! Time Magazine opines that Morg’s Beck made Deep Impact a superior film to Willis’s Armageddon released around the same time.

“I suppose that you finally realized that I was not your husband but merely a double of him when you caught a glimpse of me in the shower!” [Kline’s ‘President Mitchell’ to the real First Lady Sigourney Weaver in Dave]

And to think that all that you and Steve ever have to boast to us other regulars about is the number of movies you’ve seen!

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for sharing your thoughts on Kevin Kline and his movies. I agree his peak years were during that trio of movies. I liked A Fish Called Wanda….especially since John Cleese’s characters name was Archie Leach….still I was shocked when Kline got an Oscar for that movie. Dave is one of WoC’s two favorite President movies….which is why I put the Presidents names in that caption….I was surprised that DeNiro never played a President…as you mentioned…he did play Capone….but his closest Presidential role was in Wag The Dog….when he was playing somebody trying to save the President’s butt. I think I could live on 35 million too. Funny last line…..good feedback.

    2. Bob Roy, I love dave and French kiss. wanda is better. think of it as a british heist movie not a comedy just appropriate use of monty python crew in a drama. cleese is perfect as the conservative barrister.

      1. HI BOB

I DO like Cleese but just didn’t fancy watching Wanda. To paraphrase a saying “You can’t llike ’em all!”

        Nice to hear from you.

  2. I’ve seen 12 of the 45 films on the chart, my favorites are – A Fish Called Wanda, Dave, Chaplin, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Silverado and Wild Wild West.

I bought the live-action Beauty and the Beast on blu-ray last year and still haven’t watched it. It was a huge success. Let’s see if Aladdin repeats that success next year.

Good to see A Fish Called Wanda top the critics chart. I remember Kline winning the Best Supporting Oscar that year, the presenters were Sean Connery, Roger Moore and Michael Caine.

A worthy subject. Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out our Kevin Kline page. I have seen 34 to your 12. I like all of your favorites…especially A Fish Called Wanda, Dave and Silverado. Of your favorites, Wild Wild West is my least favorite. Your unseen Beauty and the Beast is ok….my little ones have never asked to watch it again….that seems to tell a lot about the quality of that movie.

Good trivia about his Oscar presenters…I remember the three legends up there…but I had forgotten who they gave their Oscar to. One of the few times I remember seeing Bond 1 and Bond 2 together. Good feedback as always.

  3. In 1978 I bought my first ticket to a Broadway show ( our school had brough us to Godspell previously). The show I chose in previews was On the Twentieth Century. I did not know it was a movie before (In 1979 I saw Twentieth Century the 1934 film at the Regency Revival with 1938’s You Can’t Take it With You). I went to the show based on the cast, John Cullum just off a Tony for Shenandoah (he was a regular on Northern Exposure), Imogene Coca and Madeline Khan. Billed fourth below the title playing a buffoonish Errol Flynn type was Kevin Kline, so I saw him on the stage before I saw him in a film.

    Kevin was # 518 on the 2016 Oracle of Bacon list (he’s up to 509 since). These are the actors on the list he has appeared in a film with;

    1. Hey Dan, that is awesome that you saw him before he was a star. It makes you wonder what Kline thought about that stage show. So he is still moving up the rankings…that is interesting…especially since it seems he is slowing down lately, when it comes to new movies. Lots of stars on both of the first two lists. 33 Oscar winners is a solid total for sure. Good information and good memory share of Kline on the stage. Good feedback.

  4. saw 21 including 10 of top11. 10s and favorites: Silverado, grand canyon, fish called wanda, soapdish, the big chill. another 10 sophies choice. hidden gems: January man a thriller, a solid 8 and Kline’s lowest rated UMR movie, cry freedom a meaningful eight.

    1. Hey bob cox…thanks for checking out our Kevin Kline page. Based on your tally count and all the movies you rate so highly…thinking you are a Kline fan. Silverado is a great western. Really liked The Big Chill when it first came out…not thinking it has aged well. A Fish Called Wanda is a very funny movie….still shocked he got an Oscar for that comic role. Yep, January Man did not fare well at all. Good feedback.

  5. I have seen 9 Kevin Kline movies.

The HIGHEST rated film I have seen is The Big Chill.

The highest rated film I have NOT seen is The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

The LOWEST rated film I have seen is De-Lovely.

    Favourite Kevin Kline Movies:
    A Fish Called Wanda
    The Big Chill
    The Pirates of Penzance
    Chaplin
    De-Lovely

    1. Hey Flora. 9 is a pretty good total. I have seen 34 of these movies…which really surprises me because I did not feel I was a huge Kline fan. Of your favorites….I really liked A Fish Called Wanda and The Big Chill. Though I will admit, I found The Big Chill slightly boring on my most recent viewing. Actually WoC gave up on the movie. I love to compare De-Lovely to Cary Grant’s Night and Day…same subject yet so different. Thanks for checking out all three new UMR pages.
