  1. i saw 9 including top 4. 10 not a favorite sahara. 9s and favorites: airplane and blown away (a very hidden gem with great performances by jeff and lloyd bridges, tommy lee jones and forest Whitaker, horrible UMR review 43%, very good tension in this crime thriller). 9s not favorites: high noon, talk of the town. hidden gem tucker the man and his dream a 7 with Lloyd’s fourth highest UMR review 79% (a 3.4 by letterboxd).

  2. As Bruce’s lead-in indicates Lloyd was a multi-medium performer. On top of his big screen feature films he appeared in 9 short movies between 1942 and 1987; Wikipedia details over 50 television productions that he featured in from 1952 until 1997; and his stage appearances include starring on Broadway in 1937 in a production of Shakespeare’s Othello alongside the great Walter Huston.

My own favourite Lloyd Bridges movies are Unconquered; White Tower; Colt 45; Ramrod; The Rainmaker; Tall Texan; Wichita; Winter People; City of Bad Men; and Ride Out for revenge. ***
Lloyd was black-listed for a brief time in the early 1950s but recanted whatever it was that the McCarthyites wished him to recant.

Celebrity Net Worth site calculates that at the time of his death Lloyd left a net fortune equivalent to $25 million today. Lloyd’s sons have the following reported net worth each-Jeff $100 million/Beau $16 million. Lloyd richly deserves the recognition that this new page accords him so “Voted Up!”

***FOR THOSE WHO LIKE IT “TOLD AS IT IS”
As Wikipedia emphasizes on its Bridges page Rory Calhoun was THE star of Ride out For Revenge and Gloria Graham and Lloyd were supporting players. Bruce’s co-star links column [which doesn’t give Rory any credit] might give viewers the impression that Gloria was the top star. When that movie was made in 1957 Rory was at the height of his career as an admittedly usually routine B movie western star and Gloria’s heyday was fading.

Sadly Rory would soon follow her – but “every dog should have its day” and I guess that it’s up to me to look out for the interests of MY guys on THIS site even though I don’t have the power to allocate them any Split-type extra grosses

    1. Hey Dan. As always….thanks for these trivia filled lists. Lloyd Bridges is much higher than I would have guessed on the Oracle list….granted he has lots of roles on his movie resume. Jeff Corey with 5 movies is the most frequent Oracle co-star. Interesting that Bear Island got him two of the Top 5 Oracle co-stars. Over 40 Oscar winning co-stars is impressive. Good stuff as always.

  4. I have seen 15 Lloyd Bridges including The Sound of the Fury and Trapped which are not in the table.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is High Noon.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Unconquered.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The White Tower.

    Favourite Lloyd Bridges Movies:

    High Noon
    Airplane!
    Airplane II: The Sequel
    Hot Shots!
    Hot Shots Part Deux
    A Walk in the Sun
    Trapped
The Sound of Fury aka Try and Get ME
    Canyon Passage
    The Rainmaker
    Wichita
    White Tower

Other Lloyd Bridges Movies I Have Seen:

    Abilene Town
    Colt .45

He also had an uncredited bit part as the pilot in charge of the plane to heaven in Her Comes Mr. Jordan.

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for checking out our Lloyd Bridges movies. Tally count. 15 for you and 12 for me. I have seen 6 of your favorites…glad you like his spoof movies as well. Sorry that I was unable to find grosses on The Sound of Fury. Good stuff as always.

  5. “Some actors are perennial second leads, offering firm backup to leading men generally less talented than they are. Lloyd Bridges held up the rear in dozens of minor films, achieving lead status only on television. TV gave him a hit series, “Sea Hunt”, and a string of successful made-for-television movies that brought him deserved and overdue popularity. His hilarious performance in Airplane! was marked as a triumphant return.”

Rating The Movie Stars Book (1983) 4 Star Lloyd Bridges Performances
    1949’s Home Of The Brave
    1950’s The White Tower
    1950’s The Sound of Fury
    1951’s Whistle at Easton Falls
    1952’s High Noon
    1956’s The Rainmaker
    1958’s The Goddess

    1. 26 Joel subjects to go. I actually got down to 25 before going on medical leave from UMR. Number 25 will be tomorrow….and then all the pages I wrote in advance will be published.

I have seen 12 of his movies or 24% of the ones listed.

Favorites would include Winter People (the forgotten Kurt Russell movie), Hot Shots, Airplane, High Noon and rounding out my Top 5 give me Tucker.

Sadly I was unable to locate box office grosses on two of the Joel 4 star performances…I will keep looking for some information on The Sound of Fury and Whistle at Easton Falls

Most unusual fact while researching this page….Lloyd Bridges appeared in 22 movies in 1942…..22!
