Best IMDb Trivia On Yvonne De Carlo

1. Margaret Yvonne Middleton was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1922.  Her mother’s maiden name was De Carlo.  So take her middle name and her mom’s maiden name and you get Yvonne De Carlo.

2. In 1940, Yvonne De Carlo won second place in the Miss Venice beauty contest and placed fifth in that year’s Miss California competition.   She was noticed by a booking agent and quickly began appearing in many uncredited roles in the early to mid-1940s.

3. Yvonne De Carlo nicknames:  Peggy, Technicolor Queen of Hollywood, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World and finally Queen of Technicolor

4.  Took the role of Lily Munster on The Munsters (1964) to help pay husband Bob Morgan’s medical bills. Morgan, an actor and stuntman, had suffered near-fatal injuries while filming How the West Was Won (1962). By her own admission, De Carlo never imagined, at the time, that Lily Munster would become one of her most famous roles.

5.  Yvonne De Carlo received fifth star billing (after Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Anne Baxter, and Edward G. Robinson) in Best Picture Academy Award® nominee The Ten Commandments (1956), the most important and famous film of her career and one of her personal favorites.

    1. Thanks Mike…I fixed that error on the 1945 page…but I guess it worked its way back to the De Carlo page. Hopefully it will be fixed for good on the next massive page update.

  2. I saw top 5. 10 not favorite the ten commandments. 9 and favorite mclintock. 9s not favorites: brute force, so proudly we hail( non UMR cameo), band of angels. she also had non UMR cameos in road to morocco, and here come the waves with bing crosby

  3. One of the great screen beauties, she later gained more fans as Lily Munster on TV.

I’ve seen 8 of the 45 films on the chart, less than I thought. I must have seen more of her films on TV as a kid, dad was a fan I’m sure.

My favorite of the few I know I’ve seen has to be The Ten Commandments. I also enjoyed McLintock, and The Power, an underrated sci-fi thriller starring George Hamilton.

The Ten Commandments tops all the charts though the leading lady was Anne Baxter.

    Nice work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve. Thanks for checking out our latest classic page. I figured you would enjoy the fact that the 10 Commandments rate is so high. It is easily her best movie, and I’m pretty sure you’ve seen it a few times in your life. I think it’s stars that guy from the planet of the apes… LOL. I have not seen the power, but after reading about it it sounds interesting. Then after reading you like it makes me even more interested in seeing it. Good stuff as always. I’ll have to check your channel to see if your sabbatical is over.

  4. Did you know when I accidentally started putting this in forums and it formatted better!

Did you know Al Lewis who played Grandpa on the Munsters was 1 year younger than Yvonne. When the show came out he was listed as being born in 1910 but when he passed away they found in reality he was born in 1923, he didn’t want to embarrass Yvonne. Ever watch Car 54 with Fred Gwynne and Joe E. Ross. Al is a regular and he’s much younger looking in a show that was on a season before The Munsters premiered.

Way back in time I went to a revival house, Theater 80 at 80 St. Mark’s PLace and saw Yvonne in a double bill of Salome, Where She Danced and Slave Girl (the film with the talking camel). Had to see that, Leonard Maltin’s guide gave Salome a bomb rating, rare for him for anything pre 1950. Have Salome around the house on a VHS tape.. I think all her movies at Universal in the 40’s and 50’s were in color since they were swashbucklers and westerns. She was sort of a Technicolor adventure queen like Maureen O’Hara, Maria Montez, Patricia Medina and Rhonda Fleming.

Yvonne is # 970 on the Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 list, sort of amazing since in many of her films she is the only on the list in them. The following are the other actors on the list she appeared .

I saw Liars Moon in L.A. way before it came to New York as a limited release.

Her most frequent co-star on the above list is the ever popular Ann Doran: If memory serves Mike requested a page on her.

Yvonne worked with 27 Oscar winners, too many escapist entertainments and not enough serious or boring films.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Looking at the request page this was a request you made awhile ago. Better late than never…..lol.
      2. Wow….I am surprised she is on the Oracle list…. I would have bet against that.
      3. I read that tidbit about her and Al Lewis being roughly the same age.
      4. Al Lewis seems like a person that always looked old….I have a lifelong friend that was that way.
      5. I have not seen any of the Car 54 shows….I am aware of it, just never watched it.
      6. Interesting Yvonne double feature. Salome, Where I Danced got some horrible reviews, but her beauty made it a decent box office winner.
      7. Yep, I see Ann Doran is her most frequent Oracle co-star probably going to be awhile for her to get a page.
      8. Considering the amount of low budget B movies, her Oscar winning co-star list is more than I would have expected.
      9. Thanks as always for sharing this information…keep staying healthy.

      1. I actually saw Al Lewis a couple of times in the city. He owned a restaurant on Bleeker Street and he would stand outside smoking cigars. He also ran for public office in NYC for the Green Party but I don’t remember what position he was campaigning for. Do remember getting handouts for it though.
