  1. Bruce of course gives Prelude to a Kiss 58% rating and not 56% as stated in my earlier post though as the Duke said in Rio Bravo “I sure wouldn’t like to live on the difference.”

Anyway apologies WH for the initial error.

  2. I have seen Patty in just 3 movies: Valley of the Dolls/The Miracle Worker/Prelude to a Kiss. To be honest I don’t remember her in them and I recall those films for mostly Susan Hayward’s ‘come-down’ supporting role in Dolls/ “Mrs Robinson” Bancroft’s powerhouse performance in Worker; and Prelude because somebody did a Brando imitation in it.

The latter was an awful film as Bruce’s 56% rating above suggests but I think The Work Horse should consider crediting its box office figure to Marlon’s grosses: the ‘Brando scene’ lasted a few seconds longer than Willis’ split outing.

However I have seen Patty in many TV movies and the one that I most remember is 1993’s A Matter of Justice co-starring Marty Sheen as Patty’s husband.

Patty’s TV career in fact dwarfed her big screen one and Wikipedia gives details of around 100 television productions that she appeared in stretching across 60 years from 1958 until 2015 inclusive.

Her TV roles include (1) the perennial precocious ‘Tootie’ Smith [played by famous child star Margaret O’Brien Judy’s 1944 film] and Patty played Tootie in the 1959 TV movie Meet Me in St Louis (2) and -wait for it! – the role of Sue Ann McRae in the 1967 episode of the western series The Virginian.

It will be seen that I have made myself an Honorary Virginian as I have on this site drawn the attention to the appearance of so many actors in that series [Stew Granger recently in fact]. I had hoped that some generous local would have submitted the nomination on my behalf but as that hasn’t happened I have had to take matters into my own hands.

IMDB credits Patty with 13 acting awards and 14 noms overall. Although she sadly died in 2016 Celeb Net Worth updated the net value of her estate just last month and assesses it at $10 million. She also had a very successful musical career with 2 Top 40 hits in 1965. Anyway “Voted Up!” for the hour of TV pleasure that Patty’s work has given me.

  3. I was surprised to find out that the Patty Duke Show was filmed in NYC. The 60’s seemed to have every show filmed on the backlots of L.A. Outside of Naked City, N.Y.P.D., Car 54, Where are You and I believe Kraft Music Hall, all was Boss Angeles (old 93 KHJ jingle). Patty had to stay in NYC because of child labor laws.

I have only seen 8 of Patty’s films, the highest ranked one I haven’t seen is “Me, Natalie”.

Funny Patty’s the Oscar winner and she’s never been on the Oracle list but son Sean has.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for checking out our Patty Duke page and for including the Oracle & Oscar lists. Interesting information about her television show…..that show is how I came to originally know her. Good point about her son, having a spot on the Oracle list and not her. Tally count: 8 for you, 3 for me and 2 for Flora. I like any list that starts with Michael Caine..lol. Looks like her son shares Oracle honors with Lee Grant for most frequent Oracle co-star. I think the second list could be called The Swarm list…as it has almost half of the winners on the list. Good stuff as always.

    1. Hey Flora…thanks for checking out our Patty Duke page. I have seen both of the movies you have seen plus I have seen The Miracle Worker. Tally count: Dan 8, me 3 and you 2. The Swarm is so bad it is actually a fun movie to watch. As always good stuff.
