Requests

requests1

Thankfully we get lots of requests for new pages.  Well…the wife recently informed me that my way of collecting my requests was pretty weak.  She seems to think that writing down requests on whatever piece of paper or napkin or bill that is currently on my desk is not the way to do it.  So….since she is way smarter than me….I have decided to create a page just for requests.  Plus it should give a good idea of what pages are coming down the pike.

My logic in picking which page to do next….I lean heavily towards the subject that has the most requests.

  • Roger Corman – request by Dan
  • Peter Cushing – request made by SteveLensman, Dan & Brando 90
  • Disney Live Action 1967-1980 – request by Mimic
  • Foreign Movies requested by Laurent
  • Samuel Goldwyn – request by Dan
  • Sam Katzman – request by Dan
  • Fritz Lang – request by Lupino, Just Me
  • Bruce Lee – request by Brando 90
  • Harold Lloyd – request by Søren, Me
  • Henry Mancini – request by Flora
  • Patricia Medina – request by Dan
  • Mirisch Brothers – request by Dan
  • Edward Small – request by Dan
  • Rudolph Valentino – request by Laurent

Completed requests:

Many more to come…have to find all of my old napkins and transfer the requests to this page.

  1. You should do the best year in film history. You have what 30,000 or so films in the database, probably can be ranked multiple ways. Say take the top 10 percent , 3000 or so, rank by year and see what year has the most films in the top 3000. Have you ever thought of adjusting based on what was available to spend money on. Is a picture that makes 200 million in 1946 bigger than today when there are so many other options to disperse money or time too (TV, streaming, video games etc.). In 1946 there was no TV, internet and so many other things to get your eye and time. During WWII there was rationing, you couldn’t travel and the only things they could spend on were movies and maybe local dances or concerts. Still would like to see say the most critically acclaimed year combined with box office.

    1. Hey Mike….some of those missing movies might be very hard to find box office numbers on…..but I will see what we have in the database. For the movies from 1982 to today…..if they are not on Box Office Mojo…then there is little chance we have those numbers. We have a few low rental numbers…but it is only about 30 or 40 movies from the 1980s.

    1. Hey Mike I will see what I have…..gotta admit the missing movies do not look too familiar. But I will see what I can do.

That is a massive report…so much information in there……it changed the way we do this website….and it came from Austraila.

      1. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

Massive report from Australia? I thought the majority of your information was from mainly Variety. How does this massive report from Australia play in, My curiosity is inquiring.
        Can you explain?

        Thx
        Mike

  4. I found a young actor who really acts . not padding stats and paychecks hiding behind a mask (super hero) or voice only ( anime). Chiwetel Ejiofor. much more deserving of a page than his peers, he is and will be great. a thought for prioritizing requests, is it possible that completing pages for Oscar winners of the big 6 Oscars could be done. I think you may already have such but I still cannot find Helen hunt. thanks, bob cox

    1. Hey bob cox….all great ideas….I will add Chiwetel Ejiofor to the list….Helen Hunt is on the list already….just have not done a page on her. I like your suggestion of prioritizing the requests. Sometimes “time” is the biggest reason for a new subject. The more time I have the bigger I think…..the less time the smaller I think…..like can I knock this page out in 30 minutes….if the answer is yes ….then it is the new page. Good feedback.

  5. Hi Mr. Cogerson,
Here is a question I have been wanting to ask you.
How do you calculate the data from box office rentals to full movie gross on all the older movies or what is the formula?
My next request please is for actress Ruth Hussey. If it is possible.

    thx

    Mike

    1. Hey Mike……Our formula……rentals times that year’s multiplier (found on this UMR page…https://www.ultimatemovierankings.com/sorry-i-was-so-wrong/)…..that gives an estimated box office gross…..then you divide that total by the cost of a movie ticket for the year of release….once you have the tickets sold….you multiply that by current ticket cost to get an adjusted box office number that shows how the movie did compared to today’s movies. As for Ruth Hussey….I will see what we have….though looking at her IMDb page…many are already on UMR pages…..it might be quicker to look them up…as we are having so many tech issues these days….doing new material is pretty difficult.

      1. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

        Thanks for replying

Where do you get the price of a ticket in the years 1920-now?

        please reply

        Thx Mike

          1. Hi Mr. Cogerson,

That website was very reasonable. Thanks
            That covers 50s thru today.
What ticket information do you use to calculate the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
I can’t seem to find much of information with any reliability.
            Please help.
            Thx

            Mike
